Hi, Since we installed 'Rank Math SEO PRO' and 'WPML SEO' we had some returning issues with all languages displaying after there have been some update of whatever plugin on the site - it doesn't even happen for the same plugin each time. The updates are automated from Watchful weekly, who is said to only trigger the core update features in WP. When putting all updates on hold for July, there was no such issues, but last night after 'WooCommerce' and 'Regenerate Thumbnails' got updated it started again. No other changes to the site since yesterday, actually no changes in last three weeks. After trying to figure it out for some months, using WPML Troubleshooting and deactivating/reactivating plugins and checking logs, it seems related to 'WPML SEO' somehow. Because each time it happens I have to deactivate and then reactivate 'WPML SEO' to make the languages show up as they should, under their own URL suffix. The tools like clearing WPML cache etc. in Troubleshooting doesn't help. Hopefully you're able to recreate the issue in your dev/test enviroment for 'Rank Math' and 'WPML SEO', in order to get it sorted. It's quite annoying and time consuming as it is. I created a copy of the site today, displaying the issue with all languages showing up on the frontpage at once: hidden link How it should display: hidden link Btw! WP Rocket has previously been removed, including all cached content, and there's no other active caching. Didn't change anything though, so seems like a caching hangup in WPML/WPML SEO to me. Best regards, Rune |

Hello Rune, I have reviewed both of the sites and noticed the difference. Often, this type of issue arises when the translation preference for post types is set to display the default content if a translation is not available. However, based on the debug log you've shared, it appears that everything is configured correctly. I would also like to inform you that I haven't found any similar reports or tickets in our internal system. Since this issue is specifically happening on your end, I kindly request you try to recreate the same issue in our sandbox site. The autologin link to our sandbox site is given below. - hidden link You just need to install the theme that you're using and the plugins that will be required to recreate the issue. Kindly be informed that the WPML and other add-ons are already installed on the Sandbox site. It will definitely help us to isolate the issue and debug the issue further. If you're able to replicate the issue in our sandbox site, it will be really helpful if you also can share the steps that you took to reproduce the issue. Additionally, kindly check the known issues related to the Rank Math SEO plugin from here: https://wpml.org/plugin/rank-math-seo/ Looking forward to your response and kind cooperation in this matter. Best Regards, |

Having us to spend several hours, maybe days, to rebuild a site from scratch on your server is quite a bit backward and not really acceptable. All just because you don't find any related tickets in your internal system ... I would rather like you to tell me if there is any caching going on in WPML/WPML SEO, who could be causing this? And anyhow encourage you to debug it on the site copy already made. It's after all clearly related to your WPML SEO plugin, as deactivating and reactivating it fix the issue every single time. |

Hello Rune, I totally can understand your point. We usually share the sandbox site to understand if the issue is happening on your specific site or if it happens on the other sites as well. WPML can cache a few things on your site. If you believe that is causing the issue, would you kindly try the following steps and check if that helps? - Please go to "WPML > Support > Troubleshooting" section. Make sure to take a full backup before proceeding. If the issue persists even after that, I would be happy to take a closer to understand the root cause of the issue. I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to take a better look at the issue. It would be better to have a testing site where the issue is replicated. You will find the needed fields for this below the comment area when you log in to leave your next reply. The information you will enter is private which means only you and I can see and have access to it. Maybe I'll need to replicate your site locally. For this, I’ll need to temporarily install a plugin called “Duplicator” or "All in One WP Migration" on your site. This will allow me to create a copy of your site and your content. Once the problem is resolved I will delete the local site. Let me know if this is ok with you. IMPORTANT Looking forward to your response. Best Regards, |

Hello There, I have thoroughly examined the issue and identified its root cause. Please note that during my investigation, I deactivated the WPML SEO plugin, but it did not resolve the problem. However, In the editor, I discovered a meta box with a field that allows a post to be featured in the frontend carousel[Screenshot: hidden link ]. This seems to be the primary cause of the issue. If you go to each version of the post and remove that option, the post doesn't appear in the carousel. Please check this video[ hidden link ] I made while investigating the issue. For instance, when a post is marked as 'Featured' in English, it should only be displayed in that language and not in others. This is the expected behavior. However, since the entire theme is custom-coded, maybe you need to implement multilingual support within your theme to ensure everything functions correctly in a multilingual environment. Please check the docs below to understand how you can implement multilingual support on your custom-coded theme or plugin. - https://wpml.org/documentation/support/achieving-wpml-compatibility-for-your-themes-and-plugins/ Filter and Hook library- https://wpml.org/documentation/support/wpml-coding-api/wpml-hooks-reference/ Kindly be informed that providing support for custom functionality is beyond the scope of our support. If you want, you can consider hiring a developer skilled in integrating WPML support for custom themes. You can find such professionals here: https://wpml.org/contractors/ I hope you can understand the matter. If you have any other queries, please let me know. I will be happy to help. Best Regards, |

Seems like the case and issues hasn't been understood at all, according to your reply. Regarding this: Of course not, nobody said it would, before you also reactivate it ... This is what I wrote in my first post: The rest I don't even know how I should react to, there's just nothing in it giving me any impression that you have thoroughly examined the issue and identified its root cause, as you claim. Nor does it seem like you actually read and understood my postings, and you also seems to forget the site works fine on live after I did deactivate and then reactivate the 'WPML SEO' plugin. 1. The site have been running this setup with this theme and WPML for years, the multilingual environment and support have worked just fine all the way. This is all in the previous postings, so maybe it's time for someone else to step in on your end. Best regards, Rune |

Hello Rune, Firstly, I want to sincerely apologize for any confusion or frustration my previous response may have caused. I genuinely appreciate the detail you've provided, and upon reactivating the WPML SEO plugin, the issue indeed gets resolved. I realize now that I misunderstood one of the aspects of your initial concerns. When the WPML SEO plugin is deactivated and then reactivated, it appears that the SEO data associated with the translated posts is propagated accurately, which solves the issue. As the posts are now displaying as they should, could you provide the steps to replicate the error on the site again? As per your instructions, I tried updating a plugin(an update of Rank math was available) but that didn't trigger any error. If you can share the precise steps to replicate the issue, it will be really helpful in escalating. To ensure an effective resolution, I'll forward this matter to our 2nd tier team as soon as I have all the necessary information. However, I noticed some limitations in accessing certain backend components (like plugins, themes, etc.). Could you please confirm that there are no access restrictions on the account you've shared with me? Our 2nd tier team will perform a deep dive into the described issues and ensure everything is resolved to your satisfaction. Your feedback is invaluable to us, and I'm sorry for any oversight on my part. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Best regards, |

Hi Prosenjit, I did indeed get a bit frustrated, and I would like to apologise for being a bit direct and harsh. And I'm also sorry I forgot my snippet hiding some menu items for you, it has been disabled now. > If you can share the precise steps to replicate the issue, it will be really helpful in escalating. Now this is where it becomes a bit more tricky, as we can't really replicate it manually in any way I have discovered yet. It just suddenly happens after some random plugin updates, and it doesn't seem related to any specific plugin neither. So only thing we can do is to wait for it to (hopefully) happen again on the test copy, or revert to a backup having the issue already. Best regards, Rune |

Hello Rune, I totally can understand your frustration. No problem at all. 🙂 It may take time to happen again on the Testing site. Therefore, it would be better if you could revert the site to the version when the problem was present. Then, please enable the debug log and check if any errors are getting recorded there. You can follow the instructions mentioned in the documentation below to learn more about enabling the debug log. - https://wpml.org/documentation/support/debugging-wpml/ Let me know when it is done so that I can take another closer look. Since you'll be restoring a backup you may need to create another user account. I enabled the private field for you so that you can share the access. Looking forward to your response and appreciate your patience and kind cooperation in this matter. Best regards, |

Hi, I recreated a backup but I don't see the fields for adding credentials here, nor any note about my reply being private, but I reused the same username and password, so the previously submitted details should still work (admin and ftp tested and verified). Best regards, Rune |

Hello Rune, To determine if any errors were being logged because of that issue, I implemented the File Manager plugin on your website and activated the debug log. Shortly thereafter, the following error began consistently appearing in the debug log. PHP Notice: Function acf_get_value was called <strong>incorrectly</strong>. <strong>Advanced Custom Fields PRO</strong> - We've detected one or more calls to retrieve ACF field values before ACF has been initialized. This is not supported and can result in malformed or missing data. <a href="<em><u>hidden link</u></em>" target="_blank">Learn how to fix this</a>. Please see <a href="https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/debugging-in-wordpress/">Debugging in WordPress</a> for more information. (This message was added in version 5.11.1.) in /var/www/***/wp-includes/functions.php on line 5905 The error indicates that an ACF function was called improperly, which can lead to issues, including malformed data. Given that the data on the frontend isn't displaying correctly, the error on the front end might be related to this issue. The next steps would be- 1) Correct the errors that appear in the Debug log. Feel free to reach out to the ACF support team and consult with them regarding the issues. 2) Ensure all plugins on your WordPress site are updated to their latest versions. An outdated plugin can be a common source of conflicts and issues. 3) Please keep the debug log enabled on your site, as this will help track any further issues that might arise. 4) If the issue appears again, make a package of the entire site using the "all-in-one migration plugin" and share the package with us. This will immensely help in our in-depth troubleshooting and allow us to pinpoint the root cause more effectively. Please check this documentation to understand the process of exporting an AIO Migration package: hidden link Once you downloaded the export package, upload it to Google Drive/Onedrive and generate a share link. After that, paste the share link in the private field I enabled for you. Once I have all the information, I will immediately escalate the matter to the dev team for in-depth investigation. Since I installed the File Manager plugin, the problem has been resolved again. It's clear that updating or installing a plugin triggers an action that directly solves the issue. I made several attempts to recreate the issue again, such as updating translations, changing the default language, enabling Ajax, and even downgrading the plugin, but none of these methods resulted in reproducing the issue. Please proceed with the above steps, and keep me in the loop. Should you face any challenges or have further questions, don't hesitate to reach out. We will try our best to sort things out for you. I appreciate your continued patience and kind cooperation in this matter. Best Regards, |

I'm afraid we just went of the road again with this issue, you told me above that your 2nd tier team will perform a deep dive into the described issues and ensure everything is resolved to my satisfaction, still it's just you continuing looking for ways to not send it further? If the issue was related to ACF it would have been there all the time, and also before installing Rank Math SEO and the WPML SEO plugin. Anyhow you have now published the path and info about the site publicly visible in the included PHP Notice, and that's really not acceptable. |

Sorry for the inconvenience. I removed the path info from the Error log. Please be informed that I don't have any intention of NOT escalating this issue to our 2nd tier team. The challenge we face in this issue is very rare and irregular. As you know, deactivating and then reactivating the WPML SEO plugin solves the issue, but at the same time, it makes it difficult to consistently replicate and diagnose. My goal here is to gather as much information as possible so that the 2nd tier team can start the investigation with a solid starting point. I hope you can understand the matter. However, I kindly request you to revert the site to the version when the problem was present on the site. Please let me know when it is done so that I can create the package and add it to the task created for this issue. Once again, sorry for all the inconvenience. Looking forward to your response and cooperation in this case. Best Regards, |
