Mauricio Rivera

Hello,
I am using the WPML Duplicate feature in what I think is an unorthodox method. I am working on an English and Spanish site. For an English post, I create a duplicate for the Spanish site. I then go to the Spanish duplicate and replace the English text with the Spanish translation.
The reason for this is that translations provided by the client are not sentence-to-sentence or paragraph-to-paragraph exact translations. For example, something that might be mentioned in the 1st paragraph of the English post will be mentioned in the 2nd paragraph of the Spanish post. Or the Spanish post might be longer (contain more content) than its English translation. In these cases, using the regular translation method might become very difficult.
Are there any issues I should be concerned if using Duplicate and then replacing the original (English) language with the Spanish translation on the duplicate post?
Thank you.
Mauricio

Hi Mauricio,

No, that is actually the correct way of using the Duplicate feature.
Please make sure of two things, otherwise you may lose your translated content accidentally:
- The selected editor for these pages (the ones you duplicate) needs to be the WordPress Editor, not WPML Translation Editor. That is configured in the Languages section of the original (English) page
- That you selected "Translate independently" in the Langauge section of the duplicated (Spanish) page
Please make sure you go over our documentation, where these are explained in a little more detail:

If you need anything else or have any more questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
