This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client was experiencing issues with the Advanced Translation Editor (ATE) in WPML where list items were not translating correctly and were appearing in a single line instead of individually. Additionally, certain custom checkbox fields were not being picked up for translation.

Solution:
1. We made a minor edit to the original post and saved it, prompting WPML to recognize that the translation needed an update.
2. We switched to an older version of ATE and saved the changes.
3. We purged the cache to ensure the changes took effect.
4. For the custom checkbox fields not translating, we instructed the client to:
- Use the WordPress Editor to edit a record containing the items.
- Navigate to 'Multilingual content setup' and click on 'Show system fields'.
- Set the fields like _custom-checkbox-2, _custom-checkbox-32, and _custom-checkbox-4 to 'Translate'.
- Make a minor edit to the original post/listing and save it.
- Update/add the translation to see the fields available for translation.
5. For fields related to open hours, we set them to 'copy' to ensure they correctly reflect across translations.

If these steps do not resolve the issue or if the solution seems outdated, we recommend checking the related known issues, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If the problem persists, please open a new support ticket.

Thanks a lot for your patience and I found away now it was just the once that already was done that didn't worked the way you told me or I missunderstood so I just switch language up in the top menu with the flags. I just wonder if I done like this one time can I after use the ATE without any problems?

Also a bit curious why this suddenly happened because if we in the future get the same it's not so safe the system when the clients shall put in the information themselves? Or is just this because of the problems you told me and will be fixed with the next release?

Thank you every so much and have a nice Sunday,
Annika

Hi again,
Sorry but another issue turned up. At some listing ATE don't pick up everything for translation.

Here is in Swedish the default language hidden link

Here is in English hidden link

It doesn't pick up Kök and Faciliteter and the are made from check-boxes but also the Meals (which is picked up by ATE) is check-boxes. So what can be the problem?

Thank you,
Annika

I see it's not only on the restaurants/bars/cafe directory it's also at the accommodations so probably it has something do to with that it only pick up from one of the check-box alternatives

Hello Annika,

I believe that similar to what I did in the staging, disabling the big segments and switching to the older ATE might help, I tried debugging it in the live site but it looks like the credentials are no longer working.

Can you please share new credentials so that I take a look at those issues?

Thank you for your patience,
Mateus

I checked it and I noticed that a few fields(_custom-checkbox-2, _custom-checkbox32 and _custom-checkbox-4) were set to 'Don't translate, please check the screenshot.

I followed these steps to resolve this issue:

- Using the WordPress Editor, edit one of the records containing the items that are not listing for translation in the ATE
- Scroll down to the section: Multilingual content setup and click on 'Show system fields'
- Look for the fields _custom-checkbox-2, _custom-checkbox32 and _custom-checkbox-4 and set them as 'Translate'
- Make a minor edition to the original post/listing and save it
- Update/add the translation and you should see the fields available for translation in there now

Can you please repeat those steps in the live site and tell me how it goes?

Best,
Mateus

Thank you for your answer, just wrote you a long message and it just disappeared but I try again.

I followed your instruction but it didn't work so I also went to WPML/settings and put in to translate all the _custom-checkbox but still problems. The translation doesn't pick up everything from for instance Facilities

1. I went in to the Swedish translation and checked that it was ok and just change something and saved

2. Translated with ATE and everything was there to translate but didn't turned up in the translation on the translated page?

Here is an example, see Facilities

I'm very frustrated, I worked many years with your plugin and it worked fine but now with the Directory plugin it has a lot of problems all the time. And I bought this plugin because it was compatible with WPML but seems not.

Thank you for your patience,
Annika

Hello Annika,

Thank you for your patience and understanding. I understand your frustration, and I appreciate your cooperation as we work through these issues together. Compatibility is an ongoing process, and if we detect any points needing improvement or a fix, we collaborate with the other plugin's team to find a solution. Part of this process involves replicating the issue in a fresh sandbox installation rather than a staging environment, to ensure that this is a compatibility issue instead of something specific to the site's environment or settings.

Also, when I mentioned I no longer have access to your site, I was referring to the live site. You shared the credentials for the staging site again, but I noticed some differences between them that could be interfering with the replication of the steps in the live site.

Regarding your latest points, in the listing 'Kamara', I found another field that needed to be set to 'translate': _custom-checkbox-5. Additionally, please try to set the following fields to 'copy' to see if it fixes the issue with the open hours:

_enable247hour
_expiry_date
_bdbh

After making these changes, please make a minor change to the original listing and then update the translation. This should help ensure all checkboxes are available for translation and that the open hours are correctly copied across the secondary languages.

If this doesn't resolve the issue, would it be possible to 'update' the staging site, creating a new copy that mirrors the current state of the live site? This would allow us to debug it more effectively together.

You can use the same credentials details for the new staging site if it is necessary to create a new one.

Thank you again for your patience and cooperation. Please let us know how it goes.

Best regards,
Mateus

Good morning,
I had already done _custom-checkbox-5 and plus to more -6 and -7 so now it should cover everything.
For the opening hours I did what you wrote it seems to work but need to wait some hours to have a look because they are not opened yet and hard to tell if it's working 100%.
I will be back and tell you

Thank you very much,
Annika
