Hi WPML Team, English (EN) is our standard language. German (DE) our second language The strange thing is: When we click on the blue pen in the backend on the englisch version to translate we do not get the translation editor. But when we click on the pen in the backend on the german version we get the translation editor. Wich makes no sense for me, because EN is our standard language. How can we get the translation editor when we want to translate EN to DE? The second Problem we experience is that translations get lost. Whats the reason for it? Greetings |

Hello, Thank you for getting in touch. You mentioned that clicking on the "blue pen" icon on the English language page doesn't bring up the translation editor. Could you please let me know what happens instead? Are you directed to the WPML > Translations dashboard? Regarding the missing translation, could you provide further details? Also, I checked your debug information, I noticed that your MySQL version is below the plugin minimum requirements as described at: https://wpml.org/home/minimum-requirements/ . Kindly contact your hosting provider and ask them to update the MySQL version to 5.6+ for you. |

Thanks for your reply. Did you enable the "Manual Translation" as explained here? https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/using-different-translation-editors-for-different-pages/#how-to-use-manual-translation . Try switching back to WPML Translation Editor and click on the "blue pen" again. Let me know how it goes. |

Hi Kor, As you can see in the image i do not have the same view that is pictured in the article in the EN View. Strangely only in the German Version i get this "WPML Translation Editor" & "Word Press Editor" View. But the German Version is the Translation not the Original. Greetings |

Thanks for your reply. This happens because the German Language is now the primary language of this page. We need to change it back to English as the primary language. To do that, please follow the instructions below. 1. Disconnect the page from the translated page https://wpml.org/faq/how-to-disconnect-translations-from-the-default-language-page-or-post/ 2. Then, link the pages https://wpml.org/faq/how-to-link-already-translated-pages/ and set the English Language as the primary language. |

Thanks for your reply. No, unfortunately. Since the primary and secondary translated page still works well, there will be no indication of this. You'll have to check each page manually. |

Thanks for your reply. Sorry, I'm not so sure what you mean by "If i switch back to the WPML Editor i can't link my site.". I need to check on this and I will need to closely examine your website. Therefore, I will require temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP) to a test site where the problem has been replicated, if possible. This will enable me to provide better assistance and determine if any configurations need to be modified. Please note that it is important to have a backup for security purposes and to prevent any potential data loss. You can use the UpdraftPlus plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/updraftplus/) to fulfill your backup requirements. Your upcoming reply will be treated with confidentiality and will only be visible to you and me. ✙ To resolve the issue, I may need your consent to deactivate and reactivate plugins and the theme, as well as make configuration changes on the site if necessary. This emphasizes the significance of having a backup. |

Thank you for responding. Upon inspection, it appears that you've manually translated the privacy policy page. If you switch to the "Advanced Translation Editor," you'll have to manually retranslate it. However, once you've translated the page using the "Advanced Translation Editor," it will be stored in the translation memory (as described here: https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/how-wpml-keeps-track-of-your-translations/), allowing you to utilize the "Automatic Translation" feature (detailed here: https://wpml.org/documentation/automatic-translation/) in the future. |

We have translated the Privacy Policy site using the Advanced Translation Editor and used our own texts. The Translations disappeared because of this unlinking Process you sent me. Translation Memory doesnt work for us. (As you can see in the screenshot) We need a solution for theese problems soon! Greetings |

Thank you for getting back to me. I grasp the situation now. Earlier, the main language page was in German, and the content was translated from German to English, with the translations being saved in the translation memory. However, upon switching to English as the primary language, translations are now from English to German, but unfortunately, these translations are not saved because there not translated this way. So, your options at this point would be to either revert the change or re-translate the page from English language to German language. |

Yes thats right that our inital Language was German and then we changed it to english. But why is this a problem. We have both fields filled out: the english and the german. So when english is our standard language now why cant we just get both languages in the advanced translation editor with english as the original? Greetings |

Thank you for your response. Here's how the Advanced Translation Editor functions: it saves translations only from the primary language to the secondary language. If you reverse the language pair, you'll have to retranslate the content to save it in the translation memory. For instance: - Translating from German to English: The translation is saved in the translation memory after completion. For more information, you can refer to this documentation: https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/how-wpml-keeps-track-of-your-translations/ |
