We are trying to translate our products in Woocommerce from Dutch language to English with Pay-As-You-Go.
We translated 2 single products as a test and it calculates around 270 per product. 544 total.
The only thing that it translates is the product title though because there are no other texts on the page that need translation.
So how can it calculate 270 credits for translating the title:
- Shockproof Folio Case iPad Pro 11′ – 2022 / 2021 / 2020 – Zwart
To
- Shockproof Folio Case iPad Pro 11′ – 2022 / 2021 / 2020 – Black
Thats basically only translating 1 single word for 272 credits.
Is this a bug or what am i missing here?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Images
- Pink case is a regular "dutch" product page but on the "english" language clicked.
- Black cases are the regular dutch product and the english translation that costed 272 credits.
Thank you for contacting WPML support, I'd be happy to help you with this issue.
On our server, I see the job to translate the product "Shockproof Folio Case iPad Pro 11′ – 2022 / 2021 / 2020 – Zwart" counted 139 words, including the image title and it costs 278 credits:
Deepl translation engine 2 credits/word * 139 = 278 credits.
and I think it is expected. Please check this screenshot hidden link
I can now indeed see that most credits are being counted by translating the image titles. But those do not need translations. They can always stay the same as the dutch language. How can i disable those from draining credits?
For example
- Shockproof-Folio-Case-iPad-Mini-6-2021-8.3-inch-Pencilhouder-Roze-1.jpg
Translates to
- Shockproof-Folio-Case-iPad-Mini-6-2021-8.3-inch-Pencilhouder-Roze-1.jpg
They never change, and should never change but it drains all the credits.
When i go to Settings -> WPML -> Post types -> Unlock media, set it to "not translatable" and translate another product it doesn't add the images to the translated page at all which is not desired.
How can i set the media to just copy from the main language without translating anything because 250 of the 270 credits are drained by unnecessarily "translating" those image titles.
To copy media from the original language to second languages without translating media info (title, alt text, caption ...) please try some steps below and see if it helps:
1. Go to WPML > Settings > Post Types Translation > Set the preference of post type Media (attachment) to Translatable - only show translated items.
2. Go to WPML > Settings > Media Translation > Enable options as this screenshot hidden link
3. You will need to click on buttons "Start" and "Apply" to apply the changes.
4. When editing the product in the original language, please ensure two options are available, screenshot hidden link
- Duplicate uploaded media to translations
- Duplicate featured image to translations
Then you can create a new product, upload images, translate it into a second language and see how it goes.
I tried:
- Setting the Post type translation -> Media to Translatable -> Translate all future content automatically -> Automatic translation turned on
- Setting the media translation options to the same as on the first screenshot
- Clicking apply and start
- The media starts copying and it finishes after a while
- Check if the 2 options from the second screenshot are checked on the product page of the main language
And then when you Translate the product into a second language
-- When you do this manually the image title fields are present again and you can't finish it without translating those. Which is the same problem as in the beginning.
-- When you do this automatically it just translates everything including the images and it drains the credits
So unfortunately this does not solve the problem.
Do you have any other ideas or can you see if i'm doing something wrong?
See images for the current settings and result after translation.
