We are experiencing an issue where WPML continues to translate the acronyms “ECD” and “ECDGA” into French (for example, translating ECD to “DPE”), despite repeated attempts to prevent acronym translation.
These acronyms must always remain exactly as written in all languages. This issue is affecting multiple posts, including older content, not just new posts. We have previously instructed that acronyms should not be translated, but WPML continues to override this.
We need assistance with:
• Preventing WPML from translating specific acronyms globally across the site
• Ensuring existing translated posts are corrected
• Confirming the proper configuration to permanently stop acronym translation
An example affected URL is (In the title): hidden link
Please advise on the correct configuration or provide a permanent solution to stop WPML from translating these acronyms.
I had a previous ticket which was closed due to no response. I was advised to pay for the plugin now I have paid and I want this issue resolved.
We are currently experiencing this issue on our website.
I selected DeepL and retranslated the post into French, but the title still shows “DPE” instead of “ECD.” It does not appear to be updating correctly.

I would appreciate it if this issue could be resolved as soon as possible, as we have been discussing it with your team for several months now. Previously, we were advised to upgrade to the paid version of the plugin, and now we are being asked to adjust different settings to achieve the desired result.
There is also a setup available to prevent certain words from being translated, but it does not seem to be functioning properly in this case. Since we are paying for the plugin, we would expect this behavior to work reliably without having to test multiple configurations.
We would greatly appreciate a clear and definitive solution to ensure that “ECD” does not get translated moving forward.

Hi,
In the previous reply, I suggested you use the PTC translation engine. You can select it on the WPML > Settings page, check the attached screenshot.
Then edit the post in the original language > make a small change to the title/content with "ECD" and translate it again to see how it works.
I will update you here when I have more information from our development team.
I tested the issue using the following post: hidden link
First, I edited the post title and removed the word “community” from the end. After the French translation updated, I tested the page and it correctly displayed ECD.
Next, I added the word “community” back to the title. After the translations updated again, I tested the page and now I see DPE.
I have also changed the translation setting to Private Translation, as you suggested. However, the issue is still occurring.
I will wait for your team’s response and would appreciate resolving this as soon as possible.
In the meantime, if there is a code-based solution that I can temporarily implement on my site to fix this issue, please let me know.

Hi,
Let me explain the issue that you experienced:
1. I edited the post title and removed the word “community” from the end. After the French translation updated, I tested the page and it correctly displayed ECD.
This time, the title is translated as new content and ECD will be applied to the translation content by using PTC translation engine.
2. Next, I added the word “community” back to the title. After the translations updated again, I tested the page and now I see DPE.
