Background of the issue:
I am trying to download an XLIFF file from the translation jobs, make changes in the file, and re-upload it. The site I need help with is hidden link.

Symptoms:
The changes I've made in the XLIFF file are not reflected in the translated page. There is a completely different translation there.

Questions:
Why are the changes I made in the XLIFF file not reflected in the translated page?
Is there a specific process I need to follow to ensure the changes in the XLIFF file are applied correctly?

I understand the issue you're having. It seems that the way you're editing and re-uploading the XLIFF file is not correct. To properly translate content through XLIFF files, you need to:

1. Send the job for translation.
2. Download the XLIFF file of the translation job.
3. Use a CAT (Computer-Assisted Translation) tool to translate the XLIFF file and generate the translated XLIFF.

The translated XLIFF should contain information such as source and target contents, file IDs, and other relevant data. When you import the translated XLIFF, the system will verify this information and attempt to match it with the corresponding translation job. If the details match, the translation job will be marked as complete, and the translated content will appear on the frontend.

I had to upload a backup version of the site for another reason. During the re-load of the site, the translation job was deleted. The translation job was not there from the site backup, so I reinitialized the translation job. Now the translated previous XLIFF files don't work or align with the new translation job. Do I have to download a new set of XLIFF files and send those to our translator again even thoughh I have a set of XLIFF files that is already translated?

Also, I can't open up an XLIFF file with xcode and edit the translation and expect it to work?

Hello There,
Thank you for the update.

Since the translation job was deleted and reinitialized, the previously translated XLIFF files no longer align with the new translation job. As a result, the previously translated XLIFF files will not work. You need to export the XLIFF files of the new job and have those translated. Once you import the translated XLIFF files back, the system should recognize them and display the translations properly.

As far as I know, Xcode is not an XLIFF processor. It would be better to translate the XLIFF files using a CAT tool instead of manually overwriting the files using any text editor.

So, I have to resend all the translations to the translation company, even though I have fully translated XLIFF docs in my possession?

I completely understand the situation. Unfortunately, because the translation job was deleted and reinitialized, the previously translated XLIFF files no longer align with the new job. This misalignment means that the system cannot recognize or import the previous translations correctly.

Therefore, you will need to download a new set of XLIFF files for the reinitialized job and have them translated again. However, since you have the translated document, consider reaching out to your translation service to check if they can upload the existing translated XLIFF files as a translation for the new job. This might save you from re-translating the documents.
