I am new to WPML.
I started out with Translated Documnes Options==>Page URL==>Auto--generate.
I published several pages, and then I understood that this was not what I wanted because it produced very long slugs.
Therefore I changed it to "Translate". This work great for new translations.
Questions:
1) If I edit the translated page in the Gutenberg editor and change the slug, would that create problems for WPML (I am concerned it might lose the relation between the original and translated versions)
2) If option 1 is not recommended, How should I handle URL changes of translated pages?
Hi,
I think you did not understand my question, so please let me explain again.
My situation is opposite to the example you provided.
Suppose I have a Primary (English) page with URL mydomain/url1_en
I translated it into German with the new URL mydomain/de/url1_de
Both pages are publsihed
For some reason, I changed the GERMAN URL to mydomain/de/url1_mod_de
Questions:
1) Will this create any problems for WPML?
2) Will WPML still "know" that url1_mod_de is the German version of url1_en?
3) What is the best practice in this situation?
This should work just fine and WPML should know about the existing translation.
