This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client is unable to display translation flags on their website despite deactivating all plugins except WPML and using the standard WordPress theme. The issue persists even after removing all custom CSS.
Solution:
We discovered that the footer language switcher is actually present but hidden. We recommend checking the settings in the custom CSS section of your theme, which can be accessed here: Theme Custom CSS settings.
For the main menu, ensure that the locations are correctly set to display the mega menu where the language switcher should appear.

If this solution does not resolve your issue or seems outdated, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If the problem persists, please open a new support ticket.

Background of the issue:
I am trying to display translation flags on my website. We tried turning off all plugins and only activated WPML with the standard WordPress theme, but the flags did not show. We also tried deleting all custom CSS on the website, but it was not working. The issue can be seen on this page: hidden link

Symptoms:
The translation flags are not showing on the website. I expected to see the translation flags, but none of the flags appeared.

Questions:
Why are the translation flags not showing?
What steps can I take to resolve this issue?

Can you please check if this issue appears when:

- only WPML plugins are activated, as it will tell us if there is an interaction issue with other plugin
- theme is set to a WordPress default like Twenty Twenty as it will tell us if there is an interaction issue with your theme

If not possible to test like this, let us know.

Hi,

I have tested it with only wpml and wordpress theme on a staging environment and the flags were still not showing. I can make another staging webiste and give you the creds. I also added a duplicator file is you want to create your own staging. What would be best?

Hello there,

The footer language switcher is showing but hidden from here: hidden link

and for the main menu, I select the locations correctly to mega menu and it's working.

Can you please check this.

Look forward to your reply.

Thanks
