Background of the issue:
I use WPML to translate French into English, as recommended by WPML and Divi. I am working on the site hidden link.

Symptoms:
When translating sentences with bold formatting, the original sentence includes formatting markers that are not applied to the translation. The issue arises due to differences in spacing between French and English, causing the translation to be rejected until all correct markers are applied.
I attached a screenshot example with many markers I have difficulty arranging in the English version. The second screenshot shows how it looks in the French version.
The article in French is hidden link

Questions:
I need help making it smoother. Indeed, for some sentences takes a long time to correct the formatting markers, and it doesn't always work well.

Thanks for contacting us. This shouldn't be happening and I will need to closely examine your website. Therefore, I will require temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP) to a test site where the problem has been replicated, if possible. This will enable me to provide better assistance and determine if any configurations need to be modified.

Please note that it is important to have a backup for security purposes and to prevent any potential data loss. You can use the UpdraftPlus plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/updraftplus/) to fulfill your backup requirements.

Your upcoming reply will be treated with confidentiality and will only be visible to you and me.

✙ To resolve the issue, I may need your consent to deactivate and reactivate plugins and the theme, as well as make configuration changes on the site if necessary. This emphasizes the significance of having a backup.

Thanks for your reply.

This is what I've done to fix the formatting issue for the sentence "The souk " 26th of July Corridor " not for tourists !"

1. In the Advanced Translation Editor, use the copy option as shown in the attached screenshot.

2. Translate the content.

3. Save the translation.

Could you try again? Let me know how it goes.

Hello,

I tried again with your process without success for this article: "En route vers l’oasis méconnue de Siwa"

The sentences with issues are the following:

Thanks for your help.

Just to be more specific:

From what I understand, the issue arises from the difference in punctuation conventions between French and English.

In French, there is a space after the last word and punctuation marks like !, ?, and :.

In English, there is no space after the last word and these punctuation marks.

As Divi inserts format markers, this creates the issue.

I tried to illustrate it with the attached picture.

Thanks for your reply.

It looks like this is added from Divi as shown in the attached screenshot. Maybe you can check the sentence again and remove that "extra" strong tag?

Then, retranslate it and see if it fixes it.

Hello Kor,

Sorry for my late reply; it was because of Christmas events.

I didn't try what you proposed as it would be too time-consuming to do it every time the "bug" appears. It is almost for all titles of my articles!

However, when saving the translation and opening the English version a second time, I overlooked issues with the front-end text, as seen in the example below.

Maybe it's an issue that you can report to the developers of WPML for future versions. If I chose WPML, it's because I was told that both Divi and WPML work together to make sure that the translation plugin and them are fully compatible.

But for the time being, the most important for me is that I could publish my articles in English.

Thanks for your help!

Could you please update your credentials again? I need to check your setup so that I can try to replicate the issue on our sandbox site here hidden link . Even better if you could replicate the issue there directly for us.

Then, I will escalate this to our 2nd Tier Support where they will investigate this further for us.

Thanks for your patience.

Our 2nd Tier Support checked and this is what they mentioned. We can see that the multiple strong tags are there in the original language source, hence why you are seeing them in the ATE editor.

You need to clean up their source text. You can switch the Divi text modules from Visual to Text mode and see the actual markup.

Thank you for your reply.

Does it mean it's an issue to be solved by Divi? When I contacted them, they told me it was an issue with WPML, not Divi.

As you can imagine, I can't change the format markups manually as Divi automatically inserts it. It would be too time-consuming.

When I chose WPML as my translation plugin, I was told by both Divi and WPML teams that you work together to make sure that everything is compatible between the plugin and them.

Don't let me be wrong. I'm overall very pleased with WPML. This is just one issue that slows down my translation and bothers me every time.

If I need to contact Divi again, please give me instructions about what they should do to solve this problem.

Best regards.

Thanks for your reply.

This is what you can tell Divi support.

1. Login to this sandbox site hidden link

2. Open this link hidden link

3. Edit the sentence and switch from visual to text editor. Ask them why strong tags are being added to empty spaces. Screenshot attached.
