Background of the issue:
I have completed the migration from qtranslate to WPML. After the migration, I noticed an issue with the translations in the editor.
Symptoms:
The English translated content is visible on the frontend, but when I use the editor, the texts are in the original language (French). This issue only applies to pages, while articles are fine.
Questions:
Why are the translations not visible in the WPML editor for pages?
How can I ensure that the translated content appears in the editor as well?
Although I can still edit by going to english pages, it is a risk someone uses editor and erases translations.
thank you
To check why the translations aren’t reflecting on the translated page, I’ll need to closely examine your website. Therefore, I will require temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP) to a test site where the problem has been replicated, if possible. This will enable me to provide better assistance and determine if any configurations need to be modified.
Please note that it is important to have a backup for security purposes and to prevent any potential data loss. You can use the UpdraftPlus plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/updraftplus/) to fulfill your backup requirements.
Your upcoming reply will be treated with confidentiality and will only be visible to you and me.
✙ To resolve the issue, I may need your consent to deactivate and reactivate plugins and the theme, as well as make configuration changes on the site if necessary. This emphasizes the significance of having a backup.
All the pages have the same problem The current page you are on is the home page.
Translations are visible in the front end, they are just not in the WPML editor (see screenshot shared)
Just note that I had to deactivate theme as it caused a problem, so dont mind the current look of things, I'm updating a very old, obsolete website.
So if I click on the pencil to change the translation in the Pages page, the translations are not there and if i save as is, I would lose them all. The sole current solution being to copy from front end to backend for each page, must be a way to remap those translations since they are somewhere in system?
Thank you
I had actually tried advancesd translations first and I restored a backup as it seemed worse and reverted to the old ways.
And it does that for all pages, i just checked the 5 first and some of them do have the title right, so please look further down to see what I'm saying, also 2 screenshots.
Second problem this morning. I do have to say honestly, I have always been the only person managing a site and it always annoyed me to have any translation management but up to now, I managed to get by nonetheless by simply ignoring it.
However, I just tried modifying the menu and the button (I was in the original language, french which is weird) was Submit for revision (soumettre pour relecture). I tried it and now I have also lost all the existing translations, which are, in this case, just an alignment of pages with their translated counterpart, shouldn't have to do this manually?
I'm still checking on the wrong contents in the Classic Translation Editor for this page hidden link . Not sure why this is happening and I will need to investigate this further.
I regret any inconvenience caused, but to proceed with troubleshooting, I kindly ask for a snapshot of the site. Alternatively, with your permission, I can create one myself. For this purpose, I typically recommend using the free plugin "Duplicator." If you're already familiar with Duplicator (https://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/), please skip the following steps and simply send me the archive file you downloaded.
To guide you further, please adhere to these instructions:
1. View the Duplicator instructions video: hidden link
3. If the archive file exceeds 400MB, please use Duplicator's file filters to exclude cache, wp-uploads directory, media, and archive files.
Once you have the archive file ready, kindly share the link with us. You can utilize platforms like Google Drive, Dropbox, or similar for file sharing, as the snapshot file might be large.
Please note that your next reply will be private, visible only to you and me. You can paste the file link there. Rest assured that once the issue is resolved, I will delete the local site.
As for your second issue regarding the "I have also lost all the existing translation", could you tell me which page you are working on?
