Background of the issue:
I am attempting to export a translation job from WPML, modify that export, and then re-import it with the same Job ID. This seems to currently be impossible. I would like to cc: our translator to add any additional context and provide attachments or a video showing the precise workflow.

Symptoms:
Unable to re-import a modified translation job with the same Job ID.

Questions:
Is it possible to re-import a modified translation job with the same Job ID in WPML?
How can I cc: our translator on this thread to provide additional context and attachments?

Hello,

This workflow is possible. Advisable would be that the external translator uses a software which allows to translate the files.

For WPML it is important that the job, which was created to export the XLIFF file, will not be completed before the XLIFF is getting uploaded.

Maybe the translator altered the markup or filename and this why the import fails?

Do you received any error on import? If so, what does it say?

Could you please send us the file or its content?

Best regards
Andreas

I do believe the translator alters (or desires to be able to alter) the markup, but not the filename.

Where could we send a screenshare of the desired workflow? And the file contents?

If you wish you can send me a video, but it might be very difficult for me to spot issues this way.

What you should do:
Go to WPML > Translations and download the XLIFF.

Now, compare the XLIFF with the one that you recevied from your translator.

---

It is not recommended to alter the markup. If an external translator translates and XLIFF file it would be recommended to use a software that allows translating only the texts and assures that the markup stays identical.

If you have issues with the import and receive an message like "This XLIFF file does not belong to this system", then please follow this guide:
https://wpml.org/faq/the-uploaded-xliff-file-doesnt-belong-to-this-system/

If you would like me to run a test on your site, please let me know.

Thank you for the video!

The number at the end of the XLIFF file name is the job ID. Most important usually is the header section of the XLIFF file.

Here is a short guide, about how to proceed by uploading an XLIFF file that was coming from a different job:
https://wpml.org/faq/the-uploaded-xliff-file-doesnt-belong-to-this-system/

You will need to adjust the header section of the old XLIFF file.

Simply copy the ID of your new file, to the header section of your old file, and you should be able to upload the old file.
