Background of the issue:
We have an issue with connecting to wpml.org, and now it’s asking for registration, even though we have a valid license. We contacted our hosting provider (GoDaddy), and they confirmed that they are not blocking WPML domains. We tried to reconnect WPML from the admin panel (Plugins → Add New → Commercial → Register WPML → Get a key for this site), and after inserting the new key, we got the following error.

Symptoms:
Connection error: Unable to get data from service. Detailed error: cURL error 28: Failed to connect to api.wpml.org port 443 after 9377 ms: Couldn't connect to server. When we check the Installer Support in WPML settings, we initially see all green check marks, but after pressing 'Check Now,' it shows that the WPML API server and the Toolset API server are not connected.

Questions:
What should we do next?
Can you help us with connecting the license and getting updates from wpml.org?

Hi there.

If there are any red X-ses, can you please get in touch with your hosting provider making sure that these domains are not blocked?

– wpml.org
– cdn.wpml.org
– api.wpml.org
– api.toolset.com
– cloudfront.net

Curl error 28 is also mentioned in our documentation here:
https://wpml.org/faq/wpml-plugin-cannot-connect-to-wpml-org/

We had multiple clients on GoDaddy that said GoDaddy support told them everything is fine, but we encouraged them to insist with requests until they resolved the issue because that error is coming from the hosting provider.

There's a block there and the hosting provider needs to resolve this.

Please let me know how things go.

Hi there and welcome back.

I wanted to double check with our Systems team, too, just to make sure it is not something on our end.

The Systems team confirmed they are not seeing any requests coming from your site's domain.

So, I can guarantee you that the issue is from GoDaddy. I had multiple customers that were using GoDaddy and they were complaining about the same issue and their company is known for aggressive blocks.

Ask them to escalate to a different supporter or to a departement that can investigate on a deeper level.

Tell them that our Systems team checked the situation and there are zero requests coming to us from your domain.

Good luck!
