[Resolved] Multiple sentences on the same ATE segment, why?
This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: If you're experiencing multiple sentences appearing in the same segment (row) in the Advanced Translation Editor (ATE). Solution: We recommend you adjust your ATE settings. In the Advanced Translation Editor, click on the settings icon located in the right upper corner. Here, disable the option
I prefer bigger segments
. Please note, these changes will only affect new translation jobs. To apply this setting, edit your original content, save it, and then reopen the translation editor. This option is enabled by default in the new Gen3 UI of the Advanced Translation Editor.
If this solution does not resolve your issue, or if it seems outdated or irrelevant to your specific case, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. Background of the issue:
I am trying to only get a single sentence for each ATE segment (row) on the live production site, the same as on staging. The issue can be seen at: hidden link
Symptoms:
I got multiple sentences on the same segment (row) on the live production site in ATE.
Questions:
Why are there multiple sentences on the same ATE segment?
I did as asked. I turned it OFF. Then, I changed the title of the page (aknowledgement to aknowledgement-) and saved it. Then I retranslated it in ATE and save it.
I redid the same again, but in reversed, changed the title from acknowledgment- to acknowledgment and so on. In the end, despite "I prefer big segments" being off still, the segments in ATE have multiple sentences in a same segment.
Sounds to me like the new version of WPML was rushed out the door without enough testing once again. Testing is everything, and would save a lot of money in support efforts.
Indeed, we are still working on enhancing this new version. Surely we run tests, but there can always occur edge cases.
I will be trying to recreate this issue, so that I can escalate it internally.
Workaround:
Inside the options of the Advanced Translation Editor, use the option "Use the previous version of the Advanced Translation Editor" to switch back to the Gen2 UI of the Advanced Translation Editor.
OK, then I might need to suggest to always clear the WPML cache after pushing from Staging to Production and this should solve the issue.
I do sadly not have no idea how I could troubleshoot this. The only think I could offer, it to take a local copy with "All In One WP Migration" and see if I can recreate the issue after migrating to localhost.
Then I guess we can close this ticket. I will investgate further on the other open ticket that we have about the issue with incomplete translation statuses after running updates.
Somehow there occurs a cache issue each time you push from staging to live.
