This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
You are trying to make your Hungarian language site multilingual using WPML, but you're facing issues with post categories. Specifically, new 'news' posts are being marked as 'uncategorized' because the default language for your basic post category is set to English instead of Hungarian.
Solution:
First, you need to manually edit the category where the language issue exists. From the edit screen, change the language of that category to Hungarian. If you have already created a category in English and translated it to other languages, you will need to delete all translations of that category. After deleting, translate from the Hungarian category to other languages, ensuring to name them distinctly for easy identification.

If this solution does not resolve your issue or seems outdated, we recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If problems persist, please open a new support ticket.

Background of the issue:
I have a Hungarian language site that was running fine, and I am trying to make it multilingual using WPML. We encountered issues with post categories, specifically with new 'news' posts being marked as 'uncategorized'. I discovered that the default language for our basic post category is set to English instead of Hungarian.

Symptoms:
The 'news' (hirek) category is not available for categorizing new posts, and the default language for post categories is incorrectly set to English.

Questions:
How can I change the default language of the post category from English to Hungarian?

Hello,

you can go and edit that category manually and from the edit screen change the language for that category. Image attached.

Hi,

thanks for the hint, but the dropdown has only one option there: English

Hello,

that is because you already have a category in other languages, you created it in EN language and then translated it to others.

You would need to delete all of the translations of that category and then translate from the HU category language to all others. Make sure to name them differently to later know which one is which.

Hello,

great, thanks for getting back.

If that is all and it works fine, I suggest we close this ticket.
