Background of the issue:
I am trying to translate the internal 'Continue Reading' links on my site hidden link to Spanish. These should direct the reader to a detailed blog post. I have attempted to do this via strings, but it seems there's already a Spanish translation there. However, when I swap to view the site in Spanish, it still says "Continue Reading".

Symptoms:
When I switch to view the site in Spanish, it still says 'Continue Reading' instead of the translated text.

Questions:
How can I translate the 'Continue Reading' links to Spanish using WPML?

Hi,

Thanks for contacting WPML forums support. I'll be glad to help you today.

First of all, sorry for the late reply; it was due to a higher workload.

Please let me know how this string is created in the default language.

Also, please try the following steps:

1- Go to WPML-> Theme and plugins localization, select your theme/plugin, and scan
2- Go to WPML-> String Translation
3- Scroll down and click on the "Translate texts in admin screens »" link
4- Search for the needed strings
5- Select the strings
6- Click on the "Add to String Translation" button
7- Then click on the "« Return to String Translation" link
8- Translate the strings, clear the cache, and check the front end

Kindly check our guide to know more about translating texts in the admin texts screen. (https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/string-translation/finding-strings-that-dont-appear-on-the-string-translation-page/)

Best regards,
Osama

Hi Osama,

Thanks for your reply.

Regarding your request "Please let me know how this string is created in the default language":

As per my prior screengrab, this is a default for the theme in English. Any blog article has "Continue reading" after the excerpt, so that a reader can click on that and navigate to the full blog post.

Next, I have tried to follow your steps, but without success. As per the attached, I find the option to translate the string to Spanish. It already appears to be translated, but still appears as "Continue Reading" in the front end. I have added a separate screenshot of the options available in my WP dashboard.

Any further suggestions?

Thanks.

Hi,

Thanks for your update. I would need to look closely at your site, so I would need to request temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP)
Preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated.

Your answer will be private, meaning only you and I can access it.

❌ Please backup your database and website ❌

✙ I need your permission to deactivate and reactivate the plugins and themes and change site configurations. This is also why the backup is critical.

✙ I also need your permission to take a local copy of your site to debug the issue without affecting your live site.

Best regards,
Osama

Hi Aodhagán,

Thanks for the access details. Please check if the button is translated. (hidden link)

This button is added to the "Sports Betting School" pattern. I edited this pattern translation to update the button translation.

Best regards,
Osama

Yes, that worked.

Could you please explain the steps to do so, so that I don't need to request assistance in the future?

Sorry Osama, but I still cannot find the option to do so. Is it possible to share a video recording so I can see how you did it please?

Thank you for your assistance, Osama. Very helpful. I didn't realise I needed to edit via the traditional editor, rather than the WPML version.

I have now removed the temporary WPEngine access. Thanks again.
