Hi There,

Most of the pages have been translated so I believe I can start working on my menu systems.
I started to use the manual method, which I thought would be easier but I have already linked to the incorrect page. If you go to the English homepage, then go to the language switcher at the bottom of the page, choose Traditional Chinese, it takes you to the footer instead of the Chinese Homepage.

This appears to be the same for all languages.

I had previously misplaced my footer page so I had to rebuild it. I now see the old footer has been translated to Chinese.

The new Footer has a yellow background. The old Footer has a grey background.

Could you tell me what I did wrong and how to fix this?
Could you suggest/advise me which method I should be using to build my menu's manual or WP Menu Sync?

Thanks,

Jason

Hello Jason,
Thank you for contacting WPML Support. Sorry for the delay in responding due to the weekend.

I understand the issue you're having. While checking, I found that the Chinese(Simplified and Traditional) and Vietnamese versions of the homepage are directed to the "Footer-2" template. This is the reason you're redirected to the Footer when you select any of these languages.

Please try the following steps and check if that helps to solve the issue.

- Take a full backup of the site including the database
- Remove the caches from the site and server. If any redirection is set manually, remove them as well.
- Navigate to the root directory of your site using the File Manager in your hosting control panel.
- You'll find a file name '.htaccess'. Open the file in Editor.
- Copy the contents within it and save it on your Computer
- Now, replace the htaccess rules with the default rule mentioned here: https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/htaccess/#basic-wp
- Save the changes and try to access the Chinese or Vietnamese version of the Homepage.

Let me know if that helps or if you need further assistance. I will be happy to help.

In response to the question regarding menu translation: If the pages linked in the Menu are translated already, then you don't need to translate the menu again. The Menu links will appear translated in other languages. However, the manual menu translation process is only recommended if you want a different menu in different languages. Since you already have translated pages, the Menu synchronization process will be recommended.

Best regards,
Prosenjit

Your instructions are written decisively but I am still not clear on the following:
- Take a full backup of the site including the database
J: OK, this is automatically done daily by my Siteground hosting package.
- Remove the caches from the site and server. If any redirection is set manually, remove them as well.
J1: Are you saying that I should go to Siteground, and remove the caches from the site and server or are you referring to the WordPress dashboard and possibly Yoast Redirect?
- Navigate to the root directory of your site using the File Manager in your hosting control panel.
J2: Ok, from Siteground Site Tools you want me to go to the File Manager. I think this is clear. Please confirm J1.

Hi Prosenjit,

I went to Siteground and had them check the site and after recreating the issue, they further reviewed the .htaccess and wp-config.php files as such redirects can be set in both files but in my case, they were not able to find anything out of the ordinary. We also checked the redirect tool in Site Tools and cleared all the site cache, but the issue remains which means there's something wrong with the WPML setup that is causing this

Can you help me review my WPML setup to determine what the problem is / what I did wrong? I am attaching an image of the WP Menu Sync setup ... perhaps that will give you some clues.

Appreciate your help.

Jason

Hello Jason,
I hope you're doing well.

Regarding 'J1', I meant clearing all cache types. If your server has caching activated, please clear the caches from there. Additionally, if you have any optimization plugins on your website, ensure you clear the cache from those as well.

However, thank you for trying out the suggestions. As the issue persists, a closer inspection will be required to understand the root cause of the issue.

I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to take a better look at the issue. It would be better to have a testing site where the issue is replicated.

You will find the needed fields below the comment area when you log in to leave your next reply. The information you will enter is private which means only you and I can see and have access to it.

Maybe I'll need to replicate your site locally. For this, I’ll need to temporarily install a plugin called “Duplicator” or "All in One WP Migration" on your site. This will allow me to create a copy of your site and your content. Once the problem is resolved I will delete the local site. Let me know if this is ok with you.

IMPORTANT
-Please backup site files and database before providing us access.
-If you do not see the wp-admin/FTP fields this means your post & website login details will be made PUBLIC. DO NOT post your website details unless you see the required wp-admin/FTP fields. If you do not, please ask me to enable the private box. The private box looks like this:

Looking forward to your response.

Best Regards,
Prosenjit

Hi Prosenjit,

I have two tickets opened right now, but I feel that they are converging. The other ticket I opened was a general question about how to update translated pages that have formatting changes only. However, I used the footer page as the example, which was inadvertently deleted and subsequently replaced. The Footer page is related to the language switcher issue which is currently linked to "Footer 2" instead of the home page. I will continue with the other ticket.

Hi Prosenjit,

The redirect issue has been resolved. I will submit a new ticket for support regarding the WP menu Sync.

Thanks,
