Background of the issue:
Hi there, I need to find out how many credits are being used for automatic translation. I noticed this before, but I thought I wouldn’t need so many credits. However, it turns out I do, and I feel a bit “cheated”—though maybe that’s too strong a word, so I just want to clarify 🙂

When I go into WPML / Translation Management, I select product categories, check the word count, multiply it by 3 languages, and that gives me the number of credits required.

I purchased the pay-as-you-go plan and selected a few products to see how many credits would be needed. For starters, I chose 5 products, each with about 150–170 words (I’m translating into 3 languages using DeepL). It used around 2,500 credits, which matches the expected amount. Then I took just one product, which also had around 170 words, but it ended up using over 1,000 credits, whereas it should have been around 500. I tested it again with just one product, and again it used over 1,000.

Interestingly, if I go to WooCommerce / WooCommerce Multilingual & Multicurrency and choose “Translate WooCommerce products,” I see the same word count as before, and after translation, the credits always match what I expect. The only inconvenience is that I have to manually click the “PLUS” icon for each product and language.

Hence my question: when using the first method (WPML / Translation Management) for automatic translation, are there any hidden costs—i.e., does it use more credits because you can translate more than one product at a time? I’ve had the same feeling before, that the initial credits were disappearing unusually fast, and I’m confused.

My second question is whether there’s a way to check the translation history and see how many credits were used for what.

Symptoms:
When using WPML / Translation Management, the credits used for translating a single product are higher than expected, whereas using WooCommerce / WooCommerce Multilingual & Multicurrency matches the expected credit usage.

Questions:
When using WPML / Translation Management for automatic translation, are there any hidden costs that cause more credits to be used?
Is there a way to check the translation history and see how many credits were used for what?

The number displayed in Translation Management is an approximate value and may not always be 100% accurate. We’re working on improving this estimation tool, and an updated version will be available in future releases.

To investigate the discrepancy, I can review the products for you. Could you please share the URL of the product that used 1000 credits? If possible, providing URLs for multiple products would make debugging easier.

Additionally, you can check the credit usage by navigating to **WPML → Translation Management → Tools → Automatic Translations Usage Report**.
