Background of the issue:
I am trying to update the URL structure for a page on my site hidden link. The existing top menu Marine Hardware and products > Marine Hardware links were /boat-lights/marine-hardware. I created a new page with the URL /marine-hardware-2. I want to change the new page permalink to /marine-hardware/ without the -2 at the end. Initially, I renamed the old page to /marine-hardware-prev and the new page to /marine-hardware/, but this caused issues.
Symptoms:
When I try to use /marine-hardware/, the /marine-hardware-prev/ page loads or I get a page not found error.
Questions:
How can I change the new page permalink to /marine-hardware/ and have it work correctly with WPML?
The original page that was originally linked to and named /marine-hardware/ but I had changed it to /marine-hardware-prev/ was in draft mode, so I deleted it. The live page named /marine-hardware-2/ I changed to /marine-hardware/ and when I go to the menus the link I see they are going to open is indeed /marine-hardware/ but when I click them, I get a 404 error as if the page I want was not changed (?). I then resaved permalinks and I still get a 404. This is live on the site and I can't leave it like this. So, I changed it back to /marine-hardware-2/ and it works. I don't understand why the link to /marine-hardware/ won't work when I change the new page to it and the old one is no longer in the site.
