This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:

When I do go back to edit the translations it says that they're duplicates maintained by WPML. When I click the 'Translate Indepently' button and redo the translation it then appears to be separately maintained until I update the English translation again where it reverts to duplicated content.

Solution:

Edit the database and remove the entry for your POST (POST ID) in the wp_postmeta table with the key “_icl_lang_duplicate_of”.

If you need help, open a new ticket and we will be glad to help.

I am trying to maintain manual translations for the main homepage on the site however every time I update the english homepage it automatically updates the translations. I can look at the revisions for the translated pages and see that the translations have been overwritten by the English even though they are meant to be maintained separately. When I do go back to edit the translations it says that they're duplicates maintained by WPML. When I click the 'Translate Indepently' button and redo the translation it then appears to be separately maintained until I update the English translation again where it reverts to duplicated content. Please could you help, it's driving me nuts!!!

Hello,

make sure you have disabled WPML editor as shown in the image attached.

Sometimes, a post can be displayed as a duplicate, even if we set it as “translate independently”. It happens because something is wrong in the database when a third-party post has the “_icl_lang_duplicate_of” key with the wrong ID.

Please make a backup before proceeding.

FIX
To fix this, we just need to edit the database and remove the entry for your POST (POST ID) in the wp_postmeta table with the key “_icl_lang_duplicate_of”.

Please let me know how it goes and if you need my help.

Thanks,
Drazen
