Hello,

Reporting on a client site that we are constantly getting a weird anomaly so that the alternative language menus are empty and have to be resyncronized.

It is a WP multisite network site. I have checked for memory limit and it is set to 256mb which should be sufficient?

Can you provide any further steps to debug or pinpoint this issue? It is also very difficult to replicate as we are unable to pinpoint when this happens and seems to happen on a very irregular basis.

Hi there

The memory allocation looks adequate for a typical site, but it very much depends on the individual site and whether this particular site is especially large and complex, for example.

For an intermittent issue such as this I would suggest adding an activity monitor plugin to the site so that when the problem recurs it would be possible to review recent activity to look for clues as to what the trigger might be (e.g. whether menus themselves were updated and saved).

I recently worked on a site where object caching was affecting updates of menus, where syncing the menus itself was problematic because of a very particular issue you might look out for (we are investigating further internally).

Namely, the items added to a menu are stored in wp_posts as nav_menu_item type posts. If some of these have draft rather than publish status it can affect the syncing.

That can happen easily enough if you add items to a menu in the normal menu editor but navigate away without saving.

In any case, try the activity logger to see if that offers any clues to the trigger.
