[Resolved] WPML translation issues on blog and blog category pages
This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: The client is trying to translate the blog page and the category page using Toolset templates, that fully compatible with WPML. Despite using the advanced translator, media translation, and string translations for elements like the slider texts, some texts, sidebar images, and the slider in the hero section remain untranslated in the default language, Spanish. Additionally, the blog category page automatically switches from Spanish to French, and outdated translated versions of the page persist. Solution: We identified that a plugin conflict was causing the translation issues. There was a plugin, called "Post Types Order" by Nsp code, that was causing the issue. Background of the issue:
I would like to translate the blog page and the category page. I have built 2 templates for those 2 pages, using Toolset (for its supposed 100% compatibility with WPML). Now, the advanced translator translates the few texts that have to be translated, but there are some texts that don't get translated.
Symptoms:
Even though everything has been translated with the advanced translator, media translation and with the string translations (for the slider texts), the sidebar images and the slider in the hero section are still in the default language - Spanish.
The blog category page changes its default from spanish to french by itself. I have just redone it. And I notice that that page, in other languages, is still an old version. I'd like to delete those translated versions completely and restart from scratch
Questions:
How can we solve this issue and see the correct translations?
I have checked and it seems your slider is created via the Smart Post Show plugin, not LayerSlider. I am not sure how you are translating these plugin slides and settings, but as I can see you would need to edit the slide/settings in another language and add correct strings for Read more link / button.
I have left all other plugins disabled on your staging, so you can see it is coming from that plugin.
I have made several changes in order to solve this translation problem and I had reverted back to Smart Post Show.
It really does not matter the plugin used, it does not work either way.
I was using Smart Post Show before, that is, before realising that it does not work well with WMPL.
Therefore I changed it to Layerslider, but the problem is still there.
If you look, you'll now see that the default version (/blog/) has the layerslider. The english page still has the smart post show plugin, and I cannot get rid of it. What's really weird is that entering the english edit page (hidden link) the shortcode is layerslider's, but on the front page is still the old smart post show...
the one link you shared is not the correct template you are using for your blog page, I am not sure how you got there. That template is only existing in EN.
If you check your ES page, you will see the template used is

but seems you are adding it from somewhere else also, I added heading TEST to confirm if this is template used in default lanauge, but same is not shown on front.
I suggest keeping plugins disabled for easier debugging and rechecking from where is these blocks / shortcodes coming, since I am not able to find it, there is too much content in Toolset to know what is related to what.
Please check and let me know what template/blocks are used for ES language (make sure they are translated), add TEST text to that template so I can see and confirm it is that one used in ES.
Once I have all needed info for default language I can see why translation is not working, but I think it will work, there is just confusion inside your content about what is used where and if it is translated or not.
The TEST word is showing fine - moving it above the slider make it appear. So the template used is that one.
When I went to the english version and clicked on Edit "Design with Toolset" > Edit Blog Archive archive, I ended up on the English version of the Spanish template (see screenshot).
Now with plugins disabled, I see that this is not happening: the url is for the ES version.
So maybe it's a plugin causing this. I will check it out
In the production site this issue is still visible: the edit page on the english version is a different page, with a different id, even though the template should be one, for all the languages... (see screenshots)
There are 2 templates, one for ES and one for EN, translated they do not have the same IDs. Also let's not mix the staging and production, since I am not sure what or how you are using there, and concentrate on the current issue with templates/slider. Make sure you are using the Layer slider now and we first solve this issue, then you/we can continue on any other.
To be fair, I am not really sure what happened with your translation of templates and where it went wrong, if you agree you/I can try and create on the staging site, new archive the template and then re-translate to see if it will work fine.
Sometimes object cache plugins can cause issues with translation.
I have found the plugin that was creating the EN template. It is a little plugin that apparently has nothing to do with it: Post Type Order, by Nsp code.
I deactivated the plugin, trashed the template and built it again - a rough version. Now the "Leer/read more" text of the slider get translated correctly.
The only thing that does not is the "read more" of the posts. It's not available in ATE. All the "ller articulo" texts are correctly translated in the string translation...

And it has been difficult to find out, even deactivating and activating back all plugins one by one.
What this plugin does is create different a template version for each language (see here: hidden link), and even changing the default language of an existing template.
I have removed the plugin altogether, and now the problem is gone
