Problem:
If you're experiencing an issue where you cannot edit a translation on your homepage and encounter an error message, follow these steps to troubleshoot.
Solution:
First, navigate to WPML → Support and click on the Troubleshooting link. On the WPML Troubleshooting page, click the button labeled Force-enable WPML’s Advanced Translation Editor. If this does not resolve the issue, try updating the page translation by making a minor modification to the original page (like adding an extra dot), then remove it and save the changes. This should prompt the system to indicate that the translation needs an update, allowing you to access the WPML translation editor successfully.

If the solution provided here becomes irrelevant due to updates or does not apply to your case, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. Should you need further assistance, please do not hesitate to open a new support ticket at WPML support forum.

Background of the issue:
I am trying to edit a translation on the home page. The issue can be seen at this link: hidden link

Symptoms:
An error message saying, "WPML tried to translate this page three times and failed. To get it fixed, contact WPML support"

Questions:
Why did WPML fail to translate the page three times?
How can I fix the error and successfully edit the translation?

Have you recently moved your website or restored it from a backup?

Do you see any migration banners when navigating to WPML → Translation Management?

Hello!

No banners on the Translation Management page and we had not moved or restored our website. We are hosting on Pantheon - not sure if that makes a difference?

Here are the Advanced Translator Editor logs from today when I tried to use the editor again:

It seems to be working now. Here’s what I’ve done so far:

I updated the page translation by making a small modification to the original page—I added an extra dot and then removed it. After saving the changes, the translation indicated that it needed an update, and I was able to access the WPML translation editor successfully. Could you please check if everything is fine on your end as well?

Thank you! It appears that I can use it now. What would cause an issue/hangup like this? Is there something I should do differently in the future?

Also, a secondary question for you - the whole reason why I was trying to change the translation was because we aren't getting some of the necessary button styles in the translation and I'm not sure how to rectify that?

I’m glad that it works now. I don’t believe there’s anything specific you need to do differently. It seems that there was an issue with the translations getting stuck; during the update process, we resent the translation job.

In the Advanced Translation Editor Error Logs under WPML → Support, I found the following message:

WPML has detected a change in your site's URL...

While I can’t say for certain, this message might have caused the issue, as it appeared somehow.

I also opened a new ticket to answer your latest question since the original issue has been resolved. This will assist other users facing similar problems in finding solutions when they search the forum.
