  1. Hi,

I would like to ask you if it is possible for a wordpress theme to be compatible with WPML after purchasing it and of course if it’s not compatible from the beginning.

    Thanx in advance!

    • Hi Dimitris,
yes, this is possible but the complexity of this depends on a particular theme and how many custom options it has. Let me explain.

Generally speaking every theme that uses WordPress API works well with WPML.
You will be able to translate: posts, pages, categories, tags, menus, images, custom posts and taxonomies, even custom fields irrespective of a theme chosen.

But currently the themes offered are more and more sophisticated and offer more and more custom options. You will need so called wpml config file. Some developers can create this file themselves, while for others it is a challenge. This is why we ask theme authors for their help here. When a theme author provides his/her theme with such a file your works is easy – all the theme depended strings will appear in our String translation module.

If a theme is compatible with WPML, you will find it here:
      http://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/

If not, you will still be able to translate:
posts, pages, menus, tags, categories, custom post types, custom fields, taxonomies, different strings etc.

  2. hello, i am working with wordpress, my client ask for hebrew website, arabic website , rtl.

    can yoy advice me ?

  3. Hi,

We have a wootheme plus woocomerce plus wpml plus wpml string translation. All updated to latest version.
The problem is checkout page + cart page are not translated, and if you try the second language there are no payment options anymore.
To solve the problem I need WooCommerce Multilingual and Multilingual CMS .
Before I buy the Multilingual CMS plugin I like to have the guarantee that it will work correctly. So ckeckout can be done in more languages.
    Will that work foe sure?

You have several showcases on your site, the all have this same problem. As soon as you go to the cart, you are redirected to the native language.

    • How about this one:
      https://www.mayanboutique.com

      The checkout process is translated.
Please note that the string appearing in the checkout process come from WooCommerce plugin (so called po/mo files). You can translate them via WPML or using a gettext editor (like poedit). You can also check if your the relevant po/mo files have already been provided with WooCommerce plugin itself.

  4. Hi – I am an existing customer and want to re-download my WPML Blog plugin. My account however expired – what can I do?

    Thx,

    Jeroen

    • I’m sorry but you need to have an active account to download the plugins. So if you don’t have your plugin saved on your local disk (or somewhere remotely) the only way is to renew your account.

  5. Hello!

I run a WP blog for my company and I am currently investigating the various possibilities in order to internationalize it. WPML sounds interesting but I’d really like to try it out on an actual install, also I am to demo the various possibilities in front of our content team. Playing them a video seems like a poor way to show them. Any way we could try it out, be it a trial version, or a demo site?

    Thanks,

    Claire

    • Hi Claire,
we don’t provide a demo install but there is still a chance you could see WPML in action.

We are also the authors of Toolset pugins. And some of our Toolset demo sites (which are available for free) use WPML.
      Please go here:
      http://discover-wp.com/

      and choose one of these:
      Bootstrap Real Estate
      Bootstrap Commerce

they use WPML. This way you will be able to see WPML in action and for free.

      • Thank you Agnes!

There is a slight problem though, the test website I created has this warning in the back-office:
“Your WPML settings seem to be corrupted. To avoid corrupting your existing data, we have hidden WPML from this site.”
If I click “Reset settings”, I have to configure WPML, but I don’t have the rights for that, so I am left unable to try out WPML.

  6. Hi,

I had a subscription which has since expired (back in June 2014). Do I need to pay the full amount again, or can I still renew?

    Thanks.

    • Hi Max, yes, if your subscription expired you can no longer buy it with the discount price. But you should be able to log in and renew it using the options you can see in your account.

  7. Hi,

My account expired and I can no longer login. Can I still renew or do I need to purchase a full license again? Thanks.

    • Hi stacy, please note that WPML doesn’t translate your contents automatically. WPML provides you an interface allowing to translate all your WordPress elements: posts, pages, menus, tags, categories, custom post types, custom fields, different strings etc. So WPML makes you WordPress site multilingual but doesn’t translate your contents. To translate your texts you have to possibilities:
      1. To provide the translations yourself
      2. To send a post/page to our professional translators from ICanLocalize service. This is integrated with WPML so you can do this directly from your WordPress admin and you also receive it directly to your WordPress.
Here you will see a video how it works:
      http://www.icanlocalize.com/site/services/wordpress-translation/

    • Yes, it works exactly how you described. You will find a relevant link for this in your WPML account. But please keep in mind that to upgrade to your lifetime version with the option when you pay the difference only, you need to do this before your current subscription expires.

  8. Hi, I have a .it domain and I’d like to have the same website but translated in different languages for my .fr and .co.uk domains. I’m planning to use your “different domain per language” feature but, since I didn’t register the new domains yet, I’d like to know if I need to register the domain name only or if I need also some new hosting space or If I need new wordpress installations for each new domain, could you help? Thanks, Luigi.

  9. Hi,
I’m developing a new wordpress theme for a client. Their existing site makes use of your guys plugin but they don’t seem to have any of the info to access the plugin so I can download a version for while I’m developing their theme.

    • Hi Matt,
so you can download it from your client’s WordPress site as you download any other plugin or you can ask your client to give you access to his WPML account and you will find it in the download section.

  11. Hello Team,

One of my Client want to setup the wordpress/Woocommerce site with the chinese language & English & other language as the optional, We are going to buy one Cherry Theme by Template Monester for that. The Theme link is following:

    http://www.templatemonster.com/woocommerce-themes/50439.html

As the Template Monester, the theme is WPML Compatible & they suggest to buy your WPML Plugin for this feature.

As I saw you have the 3 variants of the Plugin available on your site, so Please suggest me which variants is best for us. We want a Dropdown of Language in our site header area. Where customer can choose any language & site trun into that particular Language.

Also what would be the process to change the language, is this automatically turn into the selected language or we need to do some special action on the backend.

Also let me know how can we setup the Language dropdown on the Site header Area.

    Thanks in Advance.

    Rajesh

    • Hi Rajesh,
thank you for your interest in WPML and you detailed questions.
It would be best to buy the Multilingual CMS version (or Lifetime) for your case. The Blog version has limited functionality and is meant for simple blog site only.

We want a Dropdown of Language in our site header area. Where customer can choose any language & site trun into that particular Language.

By default WPML lets you insert the language switcher as a widget in your sidebar(s) or/and in your footer. If you need to put it in your header, you need to add a line of PHP code (you will find an example in your WPML setting). So basically you can place this switcher in any place you want. You can customize it as well if you need it. More info:
      http://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/custom-language-switcher/
      http://wpml.org/tutorials/language-switchers/
      http://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/language-switcher-options/

Also what would be the process to change the language,

I’m not sure if I can understand your question correctly. Please note that WPML doesn’t translate your content automatically. You need to create a separate page/post for each language. Then, when your site’s visitor switches the languages using the language switcher it will show the version of your post/page in a language chosen.

      • Thanks for your quick Answer, Regarding my last question “Also what would be the process to change the language”, you replied that “WPML doesn’t translate your content automatically. You need to create a separate page/post for each language.” So in that case for example if we have a About us page, so we need to create the two about us page, or if we have any product page, we need the create that in two product page for each product if we have the two language in our switcher??

        Waiting for your reply!

        Rajesh

  12. Hello,

we are using the WPML Multilingual CMS plugin (version 2.9) and we would like to upgrade, but change the version from WPML CMS to WPML BLOG.

Is the WPML CMS compatible with WPML BLOG? Will our posts/pages remain translated after installation?

    Thank you.

    Petr

    • Hi Petr,
you surprised me with your question I must admin. You are probably the first person who wants to downgrade with WPML. I’m not sure if this can be done automatically (maybe we need to change it manually in our system). Let me consult it with our developers.

But answering your next questions. Yes, your post and pages will all be fine. The Blog version doesn’t contain additional modules so if you weren’t using them, anything wrong shouldn’t happen.

    • Hi again,
so in general we can do this manually. But we checked your case in our system and you don’t have any active subscription. At least with the email you posted your comment with. So in this case you can simply buy a new Blog subscription.

  13. Hi, let’s say I have a page/blog about one “product-xyz” in english and translate it in spanish.
Now, if someone rates or comment the post/page in english, does the rating or the comment shows only on the english page or goes also on the translation page?
    (for ratings I use https://wordpress.org/plugins/kk-star-ratings/)

    Thanks for your support!

    • Hi, I guess it will affect only the post they would commented on. In WPML each translated post is saved as a separate post in WordPress.

  14. Hi WPML,
    I have two questions:

    1) If I purchase Multilingual CMS for $79 and decide I want to upgrade to the life-time version when my year is almost expired, do I pay the difference or the full amount?

    2) Is WPML fully compatible with the standard WordPress themes, in particular with Twenty Fifteen?

    TIA
    Michiel

    • Hi Michiel,
      1. Yes, if you upgrade before it expires (you can do it anytime, after a few days after buying or after a few months) you will pay the difference only.
      2. Yes. Some compatibility issues usually appear when you use sophisticated themes with tones of custom options.

  15. Hello

I’ve been recommended to use your plugin to build a bi-linual version of my site.

I have a couple of questions before purchase.

For each english page on my website, I want to create a french version, but I want to be able to control the SEO separately for each language page. (i.e. separtate pages or posts, different titles and different meta tags etc.) Is this possible with your plugin ?

Also, can you tell me what is the account renewal charge ? is this for continued support and updates ? The plugin license isn’t time limited ?

    Many thanks

    Anthony

    • Hello

Thanks for you interest in WPML.
WPML works well with the SEO by Joast famous plugin and we use it ourselves for the same reasons you are asking about.

Yes, if you buy Blog or CMS version you need to renew it for future updates and support. The Lifetime subscription lasts forever.

  16. Hi!

I would like to purchase this plugin for my church’s website in order to translate posts and pages into Spanish, but I wanted to make sure that after I install and activate the plugin, will it automatically translate all the old posts and pages I’ve created prior to installation? Any info would be much appreciated.

  17. I’ve used ceceppa multilanguage plugin.

    I’ll buy wpml soon.

    there’s a importer plugin or a goodway to transfer the datas from ceceppa to wpml ?? ^^;;

  18. Hi guys

I’m planning using wpml for my client, but since he is usem visual composer and i have noticed that this is not compatible i wanted to ask you when this will come? And if it comes? We are planning to buy the 200$ license and would be really happy to know if this feature will come, and if yes, more or less when it will come. Maybe you can give me a timeslot.

    regards
    liki

  19. Hello!

This plugin seems like what we’ve looking for.

We have a listings website, and we have .po and .mo files ready with translations that we’d like to use on our website.

I’ve been reading through descriptions and didn’t find if WPML can create translations if we upload necessary .po files?

    Thanks,
    Nazar

    • Hi Nazar,
thanks for your interest in WPML and your question. Yes, WPML supports translations done with po/mo files. For handling translations coming po/mo files you have to options:
      1. to translate the strings via WPML panel
      2. to handle the strings directly by your files.
You will find more on a relevant WPML screen in WPML settings after installing WPML.

        • Or should I ask if Multilingual CMS package, and then upgrade it to Multilingual CMS Lifetime, will we have to pay whole sum again, or pay the difference?

          • Yes, you can start with CMS and then upgrade to Lifetime paying only the difference. But you have to do this before your yearly license expires.

        • Hi Nazar, it depends on your needs. If you want your visitors to post content via fron-end you will need Views + CRED plugins so it would be best to purchase Toolset instead of each single plugin separately.

          • Oops, sorry. I’m also replying Toolset pres-sales question (our other set of plugins) so I misunderstood your question. For WPML you will need CMS or Lifetime version.
