  1. Hi! I am creating a WordPres site with the sanatorini CSS Igniter template.
IS your plugin compTible with catalan?

I would like to have it in English, spanish but also catalan!

    • Hello,
thank you for your interest in WPML.

I would like to help but I don’t understand your question.

      a. What do you mean by ‘send translation’? you mean to display the translated content or to send your original post/page to translators (this is also possible with WPML)
      b. What is a ‘parked domain’?

Looking forward to hear from you soon. I will be glad to help.

  2. For Multilingual CMS version, would I have all my posts translated to other languages by your translators or do I have to pay extra money for the posts to be translated?
    Thank you

  3. hello,

    Best Regards, Piet Wolthaar

    • Hello,
you can upgrade from the Blog version to the CMS anytime. Upgrading from CMS to Lifetime will be possible 30 days before your yearly subscription expires. In any case you pay the difference only.

The Blog subscription is suitable for small sites, where you translate only simple contents like posts/pages/menus.

  11. Hi,

I need to purchase a multi language plugin. My site is built in wordpress and is currently in English. I would like to introduce another language – Tok Pisin – which is the official language of Papua New Guinea.

Is this language supported by the plugin? If not, can you introduce it and, if not, what do I need to do to introduce this language to the site?

Lastly, Will I have any problem with the mobile version of the site?

Please note that the language uses the English Alphabet.

    Best regards,

    • Hello,
thanks for your interest in WPML.

Yes, you can add more languages to WPML. It works like this:

When you configure WPML for the first time, you need to choose the language of existing content. So you will choose English in your case. Then, you add more languages to the site. You can always go back to add / remove languages.

If you need to use a language that doesn’t appear on the list, click on Edit languages and create it.
      Detailed instructions are here:

      https://wpml.org/documentation/support/editing-wpmls-languages-table/

This way you will be able to add any language you need, including Tok Pisin .

  12. Hi WPML folks,

I hope you can answer our inquiries on how WPML may fit us.

We are setting up an English (main) and Russian-translated site. Both sites should ideally have the same content and files. We have English and Russian content specialists but both sites will be maintained by English staff.

    1) Is it possible to have an English page/post published while its Russian page /post is unpublished? In our case, translation takes some time so the Russian site will obviously lag but the English site should always be updated.

    2) Would it matter if the post/page id of the English and Russian pages are different? Example if I enter A, B, and C pages sequentially in English but the order is reversed in Russian (C, B, A). I suppose this will happen a lot. Since the Russian translations will be delayed, we can’t enter the pages/posts simultaneously in the two sites and we may not be able to enter pages/posts in Russian in the same sequence we enter them in English.

    3) How flexible is WPML in working with multilingual media files? Obviously both sites will use the same images so there should only be one copy/file of each image in the server. However, the pages may use different documents (ex. Agenda-en.pdf and Agenda-ru.pdf) and in some cases, the Russian will just use the English document if no Russian document exists.

    4) Will deactivating WPML mess up the main (English) site? One plugin we tested from the WP Repository (forgot its name) enters {en}{ru} brackets within the Content field of the Posts table so disabling it leaves the contents in a messed state.

    5) Can we use English taxonomies within the Russian site and just have it translated in the front-end?

    6) Since our site uses ACF, can we select which fields to have translations? For examples, date, external URL, and Google Maps custom fields should be the same in both sites but some fields such as free-form fields should be translated.

    7) For both 5 and 6, since the Russian site shares the same taxonomies and some custom fields with the English site, can we enter them just once within the English site?

I appreciate your response with these unfortunately numerous questions. Thanks a lot.

    • Hello,
thank you for your interest in WPML.
      1. Yes, this is possible with WPML.
      2. The order of your posts is determined by the post’s date. The translation post won’t exist until you create it. So you can have different order for different language, no problem at all.
      3. WPML CMS or Lifetime subscription include the Media Translation plugin which allows you to translate images and keeping one copy at the same time. For pdfs, you need to upload translated version to your WordPress anyway.
      4. No, it won’t but since your translations are kept as regular WordPress post/pages you will see them all on your site’s front-end where previously you had posts in one langue only.
      5. WPML allows you to translate taxonomies as well.
      6. WPML supports ACF, please see this article for more details:
      https://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/setting-wpml-advanced-custom-fields/
      7. To answer this I would have to see it ‘in action’. But feel free to check it yourself. Our refunds policy allows you to buy WPML, test it for 30 days and if you are nor completely satisfied, we will refund your order, no questions asks.
      https://wpml.org/purchase/refunds-policy/
Please note that when you buy WPML you are getting access to our support forum so you can test it safely for 30 days without no risk.

      • Thanks for the quick reply Agnes.

        I have two more questions:

        1) When using WPML, can the translated site have the same path as the main site but different subdomain (ex. http://www.domain.com/projects/project1 and ru.domain.com/projects/project1)?

        2) Since our Russian site is already existing under a different WP install, do you provide a sample PHP script which we can extend to migrate the Russian posts and custom fields into the main site with the WPML install? That way we don’t have to reenter all translated posts and custom fields individually

        Thanks

        • Hi again.
          1) yes, you can have two pages(posts, etc) with the same slug but under different subdomain.
          2) have you ever tried the Duplicator plugin? Our WPML supporters use it often so in case of question, don’t hesitate to ask them for help.
          https://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/
You can also use the WordPress export/import mechanism for moving posts/pages.

          • Hi Agnes,

What I meant in question 2) is that I need the Russian data migrated into the new host in WPML format

This means that the program will:
            1) migrate Russian data in new host
            2) give it its associated WPML post type (as you said in your reply to my first set of questions that translations are just another post type), and
            3) associate posts, custom fields, and taxonomies with the English records.

With the Duplicator, i believe it just uploads the Russian site as is but I still have to go into each English and Russian entry and somehow configure their associations inside WP.

I read in your forum something about WPAllImport plugin:

            https://wpml.org/forums/topic/exportingimporting-translation-into-live-site/

Is this plugin something your company has tested and recommends as an automated way of importing translations into WPML?

            Thanks !

            • Hi again.

This means that the program will:
              1) migrate Russian data in new host

you mean the Duplicator plugin? You can migrate your entire site with it
if you want to migrate only posts/pages you can use the WordPress importer (in your WP dashboard choose Tools->Import)

              2) give it its associated WPML post type (as you said in your reply to my first set of questions that translations are just another post type), and

Translations of posts and pages in WPML are also posts and pages but they have a different language assigned.

              3) associate posts, custom fields, and taxonomies with the English records.

You need to associate the translations yourself. I mean tell WPML which existing post is a translation of which one.

With the Duplicator, i believe it just uploads the Russian site as is but I still have to go into each English and Russian entry and somehow configure their associations inside WP.

Yes, you need to create the associations manually.

I read in your forum something about WPAllImport plugin:

Sorry I have never tested it myself. How about buying WPML and test everything you need? Please note that our refund policy allows you to test WPML for 30 days and if you are not completely satisfied we will refund your order.

During this trial period you can ask questions in our support forum. So you will be able to choose this particular supporter (our forum interface allows you to select a supporter) and ask him more questions about this plugin.

  13. Hi there,

I work for a non-profit (Hostelling International) and enquired about a complimentary subscription to WPML at the beginning of last week. Please let me know when I can expect to receive a response or confirmation?

I am currently developing a new blog platform for the company and would like to be able to test the plugin with our new theme.

Thanks in advance for your help,

    Alex Durham

    • Hi Alex,
thank you. I have just contacted people responsible for non-profits and they will check your case and contact you directly.

  14. Hi WPML,
we have a personal blog without widgets but with category and tags description fields and standard excerpts. We´ll also use a contact form plugin.
Will it be enough with the Multilingual BlogLlicense to translate everything?
    Thank you.

    • Hi,
should be ok for posts/pages, categories/tags and excerpts but I probably not enough for handling your contact form.
You can buy the blog version and then easily upgrade to CMS if it turns out that you need it (you will pay the difference only).

  15. I want to buy the CMS version, I can pay with Paypal or credit card. Before I place the order, I didn’t find somewhere to input the bill information. I want you to bill to my company name, not personal.

    How can I do that?

    • You will be able to add the details later in your WPML account. So on your invoice you will see the company data.

  16. Hi,

I posted a question but it is missing.

I want to purchase a license but want the Bill to my company name. How can I do that? Seems this purchasing form is very simple.

  17. My wordpress web site has an English Home Page and about 7 other pages with various menu headings. I have the transalations of all the pages in French and English.

I peresume I need the basic plug in at circa $30, I create new pages in the various languages – copy in the tarnslated text and publish. Will there by an icon or flag for users to select the language they require please ? There are no posts and no log in needs by the users.

Sorry for the bone questions but I am trying to understand how all this is put together.

    Many thanks for the help.

    Jim

    • Hi Jim,
yes, the Blog subscription/license should be enough for translating pages and posts. Yes, you will be able to add the language switcher. If it turns out however that you need the CMS version to translate more elements, you will be able to upgrade to this one by paying the difference only.

  18. Hello WPML,
we are developing a website that needs to be in two languages and we have tried some free plugins, but they are not what we expected and we want to know if you offer what we are looking.

Basically all the content has to be translated, for example on the sidebar you will see that if you change the language the content stays the same, we need to be able to change that.

Besides that the homepage is made by the theme with specific fields in Appearance/Customize and it also needs to be translated.

Does your plugin allow for that kind of translations.

We wouldn’t mind if for example instead of putting text we had to put a function to get the string from a file that has all translations, something like

    get_string_current_language(“Big title homepage”);

    Kind regards
    David

  19. I’ve been a repeat customer of the WPML CMS package and am considering upgrading to the lifetime license. Is there any discount or coupon available? I didn’t see one but it seems odd that if I continue with the WPML CMS I get a discount on upgrade but not to upgrade to the lifetime license. Thanks!

    • Hi Todd, if you upgrade from CMS to Lifetime before your current subscription expires you will pay the difference only. This will be possible within 30 days before your current subscription expires. You need to be logged in your WPML account to do this – you will see a link in your account. We don’t provide any special coupons.

      • Hi Agnes

Although I selected to be notified by email of your reply, I wasn’t, and subsequently purchased another year of CMS and not Lifetime.

I paid $39 for CMS and didn’t see an option for Lifetime. How much should the Lifetime have cost me?

Is there any way to correct this now?

        Thanks,
        Todd

        • Hi Todd,

First you need to upgrade to CMS, then you will be able to upgrade to Lifetime. In either case you pay the difference only but you need to do this before your yearly license expires. And you need to be logged in your WPML account.

Please let me check your case in our system, especially if the notification was sent or not. I will get back to you.

        • Hi Todd, we checked your status in our system and here are the results:
          1. You have the CMS package which you recently renewed at half price.(Aug 14)
          2. We didn’t send you the 30 day expiry notice. But we did send you the 3 day expirty notice and our system shows it was opened it twice.
          3. You should still be able to upgrade for Lifetime paying the difference from your WPML account page:
          https://wpml.org/account/

          I hope it helps.

  20. Hi,

I have used the APPTHEME wordpress theme (by THETHEMESHOP) which is not WPML compatible but I really want to use WPML to make my site multilingual, any way you could assist me for the customization of WPML install? Or is it just not going to work?

    Thank you,
    Damien

    • Hi Damien,
there chances that it will work are higher than you think.

First of all, all the basic elements like posts, pages, categories, tags, menus, widgets are translated without any problems. You might have some issues with theme’s custom options. But they can also work even if your theme is not completely compatible with WPML.

      This article explains the details:
      https://wpml.org/2015/07/translating-theme-options-sliders-footer-widgets/

Please give it a try and test yourself for 30 days. Our refund policy allows you to test WPMLL for 30 days and if you are not completely satisfy with the product we will give your money back:

      https://wpml.org/purchase/refunds-policy/

Please note that you can use one WPML license for all the sites you build.
