I have already put together the English part of a clients site with a purchased theme. They need a Spanish Version as well and the author of the theme recommended me using WPML. Before purchasing I had a few questions:
1. Since I already have content for the English part, is that going to be an issue?
2. Can I add my own translated pages (so for instance, their About page, they already gave me the translated version – can I just add that content?)
3. How do users switch between languages (right now I have an “Espanol” button that I was thinking would switch the site to the Spanish version, and vise versa).
4. What about images (they have a timeline jpeg – one in English and one in Spanish on their About page – is there a way to switch these out for either language?)
Hi Rose,
answering your questions:
1. That’s good that you have content for the English site because WPML doesn’t translate automatically so you will need it anyway. When you install WPML just select English as the site’s primary language.
2. When you build your multilingual site with WPML, for each post/page you create a new version in another language. Do this for your “About us” page as well and add your translation that you already have.
3. WPML will generate a language switcher for you based on the languages you have chosen during the setup.
4. Yes, WPML allows you to translate images as well. To translate images, you will need the CMS or Lifetime subscription (the Blog version doesn’t have this module)
I tried to purchase the lifetime membership, both with a credit card and through paypal and it is not letting me. I also had my colleague try a different card and the same thing happened.
We have multiple websites that we are moving to WordPress. One of them requires translation in Spanish, French, Italian and German. Would it be possible to send copy for accuracy? Can we compare the standard translation to the professional services?
Hello,
You can build a site with WPML that will be available in Spanish, French, Italian and German. However, WPML doens’t translate your content automatically. You don’t provide a test copy but we have a refunds policy that lets you test WPML for 30 days: https://wpml.org/purchase/refunds-policy/
Hi,
1. Here’s the list of themes compatible with WPML: https://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/
For each theme, it says when the theme was last tested. I hope it will help you choose a perfect theme.
2. The version that you have installed won’t stop working. However, you will loose access to our support forum and future releases. After the first year you will be able to upgrade to the Lifetime version by paying the diffrence only.
Please check your spam folder, if this doesn’t help use this contact form to share the data that will let us find your order in our system. https://wpml.org/home/contact-us/contact-form/

Is there a time limited trial I can use to facilitate this pre-testing?

Hi Markus, me again.
Mercedes Barrenda contacted via email you but never heard from you back (you should see an email from Hello WPML). Did you get this email?
If I subscribe for the CMS package for the year, like the product and want to upgrade to lifetime membership, do I just need to pay the difference….presuming that I upgrade whilst the package is still live, ie within the year.
Lovely jubbly…… do you have some documents recommended ideal setups regarding subdomains v subfolders or specific country domains or TLD’s for different countries etc as I am looking to develop a site for countries throughout Central and South America. The translations will be in Spanish and English but I believe country specific content, (as opposed to purely language specific….. _en, _es) for products, promotions etc would be most ideal. SEO is obviously a consideration as well. Thankyou
I cannot register my key on WordPress and do not see an option to add a new thread under support. Please direct me to the proper department and explain how I should contact support next time.
Hi,
can you log into your WPML account? If so, you should be able to create a new forum thread as well. Anyway, I asked our admins to check your case. I will keep you posted.
Hi,
using WPML with the WooCommerce Multilingual requires the CMS version.
Please note that the WooCommerce Multilingual plugin was designed to translate your WooCommerce products, not to provide your product in different currencies.
Yes, correct, this is how our plugins work. But the main purpose of the WooCommerce Multilingual plugin is to provide you with an interface for product translation not just for selling your products with different currencies.
Hi, I’ve spent quite a long time looking for information on Hreflang tag, but I haven’t found the answers that are entirely relevant to my questions. So I would appreciate it if you could please answer them for me here.
I’m considering adopting WPML plugin (Multilingual CMS) for my ecommerce website. The only thing that’s holding me back now is with regards to WPML hreflang functionality. If I understand correctly, WPML allows me to add hreflang tags to pages whose contents are essentially the same but in different languages, providing that these pages are “on the same domain”. What about pages on “different domains”? I’m asking this because I’ll be managing many websites with very similar (English) content, hence very likely I’ll have to deal with duplicate content issue with the use of hreflang.
More specifically, supposed that I want to create hreflang tag for the following urls:
There shouldn’t be a problem with the first two urls (right?), but what about the third url (with .com.au as ccTLD)? Does WPML allow me to add hreflang tag by having an alternate site being a url from a different domain (i.e. domain.com.au/en-au in this case)?
If there’s actually a way to do it, please show me how.
If not…well…I’ve found this wordpress plugin called Hreflang Manager (http://codecanyon.net/item/hreflang-manager/6543147). This plugin allows for adding hreflang in the manner that I mentioned above. But it doesn’t allow for automatically adding hreflang to multilingual pages like WPML. So, my question is:
Can Hreflang Manager work together with WPML? Are they compatible?
And lastly, is there any other (better) way of dealing with this issue that you might be able to recommend?
WPML can serve different languages from different domains or sub-domains. To handle the following “configuration”
domain.com/en-us
domain.com/fr
domain.com.au/en-au
Looks like a momentary error in the payment processor’s system. Please try again. If the problem persists, tell us if you are buying via PayPal or 2checkout.
My client has version 2.6 and it stopped working. It won’t let him save a menu in the foreign language. Here’s my question: do we need to repurchase the whole plugin all over again, or can we buy just an upgrade or the lifetime at a discounted rate? Please let me know, thanks!
You can buy the upgrade to Lifetime, even if your account has expired. Log in to your account. You will see the upgrade button at the right-hand column. When you buy the upgrade, you only need to pay the difference between what you paid before and the Lifetime account cost.
I had set up language and select drop-down menu in Language switcher style, but on front-end, drop-down menu doesn’t work. In addition, when I switch to another language in Site language, my site is “page not found”. Please give me some advices.
Besides, I have another question about WPML Compatibility Test Tool. How can I get it? Is that a free plugin or premium plugin?
hello, I am Leina Lee.
I would like to install the WPML plugin and I wonder this plugin can translate our board contents. I installed “Kboard plugin” at my site and I want to transplate this “Kboard’s contents”. Is it possible? or not? the WPML only limit to wordpress page contents?
Hi Leina,
no, WPML won’t translate your Kboard’s contents. WPML doesn’t translate your content automatically. It allows you to translate: posts, pages, menus, categories, widgets, images, even custom strings but you provide the translations.

Hi, I need to create a one page wp site and decided to buy WPML CMS.
However I have two question marks in my head.
1. Can I comfortably choose one of the one page templates from themeforest?
I mean, I saw some problems on wpml forums for one page templates.
I need to change all the content to Turkish and English.
2. After 1 year period, I could’t understand what will I still have if I don’t renew.
Thanks.

Yes, you can test WPML for 30 days:

I use this card daily.
Please advise asap.

Hi Chris,
choosing between subdomains and folders is done with a single option in WPML settings. However, if you want to assign different domains (don’t confuse with subdomains), that’s more work required:
https://wpml.org/faq/server-setting-for-languages-in-different-domains/
WPML supports SEO. It is fully compatible with the most popular SEO plugins:
https://wpml.org/plugin/all-in-one-seo-pack/
https://wpml.org/plugin/wordpress-seo/
If you want to use WPML for translating WooCommerce products, it’s also possible:

Hi John,
thank you for your interest in WPML.
WPML can serve different languages from different domains or sub-domains. To handle the following “configuration”
domain.com/en-us
domain.com/fr
domain.com.au/en-au
with WPML, some setup is required in your web server.

Hi Luca,
you mean, how to translate elements of your WordPress site? Please get started with this tutorial

translating posts, pages and menus is very intuitive and you won’t need any tutorial.
