  1. Hi,

For i client i am buildiing a website:
    – theme twenty eleven (child theme)
    – WordPress 3.3.1.

for this website i am using a “theme menu” (dashboard / appearance / menus)
How will the use of WPML affect this theme menu? Does it work correctly with this theme menu? If i change captions in the theme menu, how will i do the same for other languages?

  2. 1) I’m trying to decide if i should transition from qTranslate now or wait until the importer is ready.

Can you briefly outline the process of doing it manually?

    2) Will you consider a third purchase option at some point, the Blog + strings. I don’t need any of the management stuff. I’m sure i’m not the only one. $50 more for the strings translator is mighty steep.

    • This process is pretty work intense. You’ll need to go through each of the posts, use the HTML mode and copy the content and paste into the new posts that WPML creates. Do the same for posts, custom fields and taxonomy. Then, connect between them.

  3. Hi,
I am using the Emporium template.
It contains a full working webshop, including products, ordering and shipping service.
Might be hard to answer for you, but do you think that WPML can be used for this template, since each product has it’s own description and variables like Color, Weight and Sizes.
I could give you Dashboard access if needed.
    Rob

    • It should probably work OK. The themes from Templatic are pretty solid and rely just on WordPress API. As such, WPML and the theme should work fine together.

The author is also cooperative with us, so if there’s a problem, we’ll have someone to talk with. As always, if there’s a problem we cannot resolve, we can always refund your order. We always prefer to spend the time and get things working for you.

  4. My client (http://www.statinmed.com/) wants to create a Turkish version of their site within a subfolder (i.e. http://www.statinmed.com/turkey/). They want to manually translate each page. Two questions:

    1) Would your plugin allow this? Do you think your plugin is a good solution for what they need?
    2) Would each “turkish” page have a different URL than the English version? In other words, can they send people to http://www.statinmed.com/turkey/ so that user can just click around to see the turkey-only site?

    Thanks,
    Casey

        • Yes. If English is the default language, Turkish will sit on that path. If Turkish is the default language, English would in in /en/.

              • Hello,

MySQL 5.0 is the latest version supported by GoDaddy.

We asked them, “Do you restrict any features in MySQL 4.1/5.0?” They said….

Yes. In order to protect our shared servers we restrict the following features:

MySQL 4.1 and 5.0: The Berkeley storage engine is no longer supported by us or MySQL AB. If you have tables which use the Berkeley storage engine you may continue to use that table, however we will not support it. We advise that all customers convert their Berkeley storage engine tables into InnoDB.

Reading the info above, would your plugin work on our server?

                Thanks,
                Casey

                • Once a user on a turkish translated page (in the “tr” folder) – can they click around to other links and stay within the Turkish-only site? Or do they have to manually click on the translate dropdown to see the Turkish translations?

  5. Hello,

    1. My WP version is 3.3.1. Is WPML working well with classipress 3.1.6?

    2. In this case, do I need of a second website as second language version website or translation is automatic?

    3. Is it possible to connect the two versions to the same database?

    4. If problem, will I have to pay your developpers to solve it?

The primary version is in french, the second in project would be in english.

    Thanks per advance.

    CM

    • I’m not quite sure. We asked the AppThemes people to work with us and test is, but they’re too busy. If enough people ask them this, I’m sure that their interest will go up and they will spend the necessary time with us.

  6. Hello,

    1) we would like to build wp sites for clients and would like to ask about the license options, what does

    “Translation management
    Theme and plugins localization
    CMS navigation
    Sticky links”

mean, where is the information about these features ,

if we build WP sites for clients – do we need the 79 USD in any case , with 29 USD version the sites for clients can not be built on unlmited domains, sites , upgrades

    2) After we purchase the 29 USD version, can we upgrade to 79 usd version later ? how much for upgrade ?

    regards,

    Tom

    • If you need all of WPML’s modules (as you describe), you should get the complete package for $79. You can buy the $29 and upgrade later too.

    • It will, but I’m not sure that you’ll be able to translate everything. Some of the theme’s features need WPML’s String Translation module, which comes with the CMS package.

    • There are many technical differences between WPML and qTranslate. One non-technical difference is that WPML is actively maintained by our developers who are working on it full-time. This is why we charge payment for it. The other benefits are mostly a result of this fact.

    • If you need a refund, just ask for it. We don’t ask why or try to convince you otherwise. We log in to PayPal and refund the order. Then, you get it back to your PayPal account or credit card (depending on how you paid).

  7. My site is build on WP 3.2.1 and “Good Minimal” template from ThemeForest.
Will WPML (CMS version) manage all the widgets, even the homepage ones?
    What about the sidebars widgets?

Some images are specific to a language (charts, ecc…). Will WPML manage this too?

    Thanks!

    • WPML works fine with widgets on most themes. If the theme uses WordPress API, it should work fine.

The only way to know for sure is to test. We’ll be happy to create a complementary account for the theme author, so that he can test the theme and see that everything is OK. You can refer them here:
      http://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/go-global-program/

In any case, if you purchase WPML and have any sort of issue, we’ll immediately refund your order.

  8. hi! I have a question about the handling of the postings.
im using german as the primary language in my blog, but some topics are only available in english. is it possible to seperate these posts from the german articles such that they are not shown together?

      • as an conclusion there has to be an german article to create an related english posting. are there any template tags e.g. so that i can put the “english only” posts in a specific category and filter them out in the german blog?

  9. Hi,

I am working for an advertising company and we just had a WordPress Template developed for us by another company and we are using it to build many sites (On a Multi-Site Installation of WP) for our agencies around the world. The problem is that some of them want the website to be able to be built in both English and their native language serving from the same domain.

I had downloaded polylang which did what we wanted to a certain extent.

    What we need is:
1- We have many Custom Post Types built in our template some of them with several meta boxes, etc to upload media that would be displayed in for example while looking at a piece of work we made, but then we would like the user to be able to click on the different language flag and it would show that same piece of work in the different language (I achieved this with polylang by creating 2 different posts and then selecting their language and telling them what was the id of the translated post”

2- We could have cases where the English version and the other language have different assets being uploaded (example an advert in english on the english version and the swedish advert for the same advert but the swedish version). I did it with polylang because since I could create two posts then i could upload different assets, but the polylang is buggy and broke a few things.

Sorry if it does not make a lot of sense. Maybe having a look our main site you could have an idea what we do and what are the functionalities behind everything. The main site is http://www.loweandpartners.com

The company that developed the template suggested WPML for the multi language sites and then another person said the same thing so based on the fact that two good sources told us about you then I would like to get some information first before speaking with the management team to go ahead and buy it.

    Thanks for everything,

    Vitor

    • WPML should serve your needs exactly. It creates different posts for different languages and links them together. Each post has its own custom fields. WPML can synchronize custom field values for you between languages, or you can leave them independent.

  10. Hi,
We are a church wondering about the compatibility of additional plug-ins for our site in development. WPML looks excellent in terms of launching a Spanish site

The first question is a calendar. Are there any event calendars that have been tested with WPML? We are currently looking at “All in One Event” calendar by Seed.

Second, we were wondering about another plugin, Sermon Browser, which we are testing for display of sermons.

In both cases, we don’t want both languages appearing. If you pick Spanish, you only see the Spanish calendar and the Spanish sermons – not both.

    Thanks

    Tony

  11. Howdy!

I have one question. If I buy and install the WPML plugin will all of the content automatically translate to the languge I select or do I have to go through each and everyone of my posts and pages?

      • Thanks for your reply. I am still waiting for a response from them. I hope it will be a disaster for us. I have also checked the page you list the compatible themes but they are very limited. I hope Repro theme guys will respond soon.

  12. HEADWAY 3.0.5

Hi there, I am using headway themes 3.0.5. In the past version I know WPML was supported. I want to make a multi language site. Is it WPML suitable for my needs?

    Cheers

  13. Hello, we have to translate our site using, for some languages, our personal translations and for languages of minor interest for us just the automatic translator. Is it enough to buy the blog version or do we need the cms one? Among the languages we have also chinese.
    Thanks in advance!
    Regards
    Renato

  14. Hi there, I am planning to purchase the WPML CMS plug-in for a site I am building, however I have to ask somebody at our HQ to complete the purchase with the company credit card. Can you tell me how the plug-in is downloaded after entering payment details? Will my colleague need to download it and send to me (if so, will that work), or if she enters my email address in the forms will I get a link to download?

I just need to make sure that I will be able to download and install the plug-in if it is not me who makes the purchase.

    Many thanks,

    Kitty

    • You’ll get an account in WPML.org. Then, you can login and download. We don’t limit the number of times that you download WPML.

      • One further question has presented itself: are the credit card details saved on the account created? The company credit card policy won’t allow it to be used if that’s the case.

Could you also just let me know how big the download is? I’m on a very poor internet connection.

        Thanks,

        Kitty

        • No. We use PayPal and Google Checkout for payment processing and don’t store your financial data. We wouldn’t want to be target for any sort of hacking due to holding credit card data.

WPML’s ZIP file is around 1MByte.

  15. We want to purchase WPML, but before making the purchase, I need to understand something.

We are using Striking theme, which is listed on your Theme Compatibility page: http://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/

Do we still need to manually translate our pages for each supported language that is included with our theme? Does the translation Ready files included with the theme take care of translating our content? Thanks for your help in advance.

    ~C

    • WPML doesn’t do any sort of automated content translation. It lets you translate content yourself. We list themes that work correctly with WPML. Meaning, when you create a multilingual site, things will work correctly and everything can switch language. If you’re looking for a tool that does automated machine translation, it’s not WPML.
