  1. Hello,
I have a WP site that I built in hebrew and now i need it to “flip sides” and be in english, french, deutsh etc.

I do not need a translation, i already have it – my question is does WPML also handles the rtl>ltr theme flipping? or is it just the content and translation?

  2. What sort of support is there for theme switchers, specifically here we are looking to localise both mobile and desktop versions.

    Thanks

    • If the theme uses the standard GetText calls for all strings, WPML will handle the localization fully. It will scan the theme, extract the texts for translation and let you translate it. You’ll need the CMS package for that.

  3. Hi, I have currently two blogs on one website. Each blog is in different language. I want to use WPML to add few more languages to the English blog, but I want to keep my other separate blog. My questions is – can I add my second blog(link to it) as an item in the Language dropdown of WPML?

  4. Hello,
I asked a question and never got an answer 🙁
Nevertheless I bought the wpml cms version but I don’t understand how to run it as they’re all dreamweaver files.
I made a website starting with wordpress.com and not downloading from wordpress.org. I thought it was possible to have the translation in the .com version as well. I hoper that I can have an answer from someone, otherwise I’ll ask for the refund.
    Thanks a lot

    • WordPress.com doesn’t allow to install any plugins, at all. You can only install plugins on self-hosted WordPress sites. I’ll refund your order.

  5. Hello,

    What is your update policy?

Are bug fixing updates and security updates included in purchase price?

What will happen at next major release? Will we have to purchase again?

    Thank you.

    • We give priority to fixing bugs and improving compatibility over new features. When you purchase WPML, you get support and upgrades for a year. This includes all new versions. After that year, you can renew your support and upgrades subscription for 50% of the original purchase cost.

  6. Hi Amir,

I am considering to buy the WPML license but I would like to know if it really works with the folioway theme. I need English / Hebrew.

In their forum and also in your forum and presale questions I have seen many times that people are not getting very upset by not getting an answer or the right support. I can imagine that you are super busy and you are not able to get into every theme, but in some cases more than 6 months passed without being solved, although requested by several people..

So what do you say? Is it working and can i count on reasonable support from WPML?

    • I forgot to mention that not even your site is fully working with the hebrew. I.e. The menu drop downs are not aligned.

I an not asking this to bug you, I just want to achieve a clean site, and i am asking myself if it’s better to run two blogs seperately or to use the wpml solution.
Until know I have not seen a fully working site, which runs not the standard theme.

      Please advise

      • This is a CSS issue. We have several other CSS issues that we’re working on. It’s got nothing to do with WPML, but with our own theme. WPML doesn’t generate CSS for your theme.

  7. Hello, I am looking for the right tool that will allow me to translate my websites into different languages. I´ve created the WordPress themes with Artisteer. Is WPML fully compatible with Artisteer theme designer and creator?
I dont know much about coding and would prefer to do everything on a graphic interface.
    Thanks in advance
    Fernando

    • We haven’t tested WPML with Artisteer. You can buy WPML and see. I think that it should work fine, as their themes use WordPress API for all functionality.

If there’s any problem, we’ll do our best to support you and if you’re not happy, we can always refund your order.

      • Something importat for me is that everything should be done through the WPML interface. I have little knowledge of coding and I wouldnt like to change header.php each time I update the theme.
Does WPML will allow me to for example specifcy a certain area where to put the language flags or dropdown menu (language chooser) without touching the code of the theme?
Will any other translation require me modifying the theme itself or I can do it everything within WordPress GUI?
        Thanks!

        • Most likely, you will need to edit your header.php file and add it there. You can insert a language switcher as widget, to any widget zone, but most themes don’t have widget zones in their header.

  8. Hi Amir,
what about WPEC compatibility? I’m setting up a French/Italian/English e-commerce and i’m considering to buy your CMS license.
    Are some docs/manuals available?

    Thank you.

    • From what we’ve tested, WPML works fine with PageLines. If you buy WPML and have any sort of problem, we’ll do our best to support you. You can always get a refund if you’re not 100% happy.

  9. Hi!

It’s possible to use subdomain with this plugin (WordPress)? Ex: fr.domain.com, es.domain.com, en.domain.com, etc…

    Thanks!

  10. Hi,

I am building a website for an Irish arts organisation. They will require the website to be fully bilingual: English/Gaeilge. Does WPML allow for the wordpress contributors to submit their own translations or is the plugin based on automatic translations? Ideally there should be two text fields for every post and page – post title (English), post title (Irish), post content (english), post content (Irish), etc.

I also want to make sure that a website visitor has the option to translate from english to irish and vice versa from any page/post and land on the equivalent page/post in the second language.

Any advice on this would be great

    Odhran

    • WPML doesn’t support any sort of automated translation. It’s intended for human translation.

You will be able to work with contributing translators very easily. They can translate from within WordPress or using CAT (Computer Assisted Translation) tools for offline work.

      Have a look here:
      http://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/

You will be able to insert a language switcher to your theme, allowing visitors to move between English and Gaeilge.

  11. I want to build a multilingual site that in WordPress, that will be both a site and a blog. DO I have purchase both plugins, the Multilingual Blog and Multilingual CMS plugins, or just the Multilingual CMS, and that will translate the blog as well?

  12. Hi there,
I’m curious if wpml works with custom post types and more importantly with custom taxonomy categories and the slugs.

    If so, I’ll buy it.

    • Yes. WPML works fine with custom post types. Some of the content on this site uses CPTs too. Please note that at the moment CTP slugs are not localized. This is how WordPress works. You will get the language name in the URL, but the CPT slug will be the same for all languages.

  13. I am thinking to buy Multilingual CMS US$79. Please clarify:
    (1) I need to insert text in different languages or your module will translate it, if I only enter my text in English.
    (2) How many languages does it support? A list will be appropriate.
    (3) Does it change images as well?
    (4) What about if I have text over buttons?

It will be good, if you reply my point as point, means number-wise.

    Many Thanks!

    Regards

    • WPML doesn’t do automated translation. It’s a tool that lets you translate yourself.
You can add as many languages as you need. WPML comes with around 40 predefined languages and you can add your own other languages.
You can have the same images for translations or different images.
You will need to produce button graphics with translations if you have graphics with texts on them.

    • Yes. WPML itself is localized into Polish. This is the complete list of languages WPML’s GUI is translated to:
English to Spanish, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Japanese, German, French, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Hebrew, Arabic, Russian, Greek, Swedish, Korean, Polish, Portugal Portuguese.

You can use WPML for sites in other languages too, but these are the languages that the plugin texts are translated to.

  14. Hello, I have bought a version of WPML in wicht it seems that the translation of comments is disabled. Why is this so? On http://wpml.org/purchase/ it clearly says that comment translation is supported for both versions. I look trough the code and realized you are doiing this for a reason, the Google API, but why are you not keeping this as it is or giving us another option? You telling you are not longer supporting this feature?

    regards, Leon

    • Still, the Google API is the best option available – by far. Once we get it working again with Google API commercial keys, we’ll enable this feature in WPML.

  15. Just checking how this works, looks good. If I have pages translated into second language as described, with titles also translated, then switch to the second language, that also automatically changes the menu items that point now to the translated pages instead of the English versions?

    • I hope that I understand the question correctly. Yes, WPML translates posts and pages (and any other WP content). Each language can have its own menu.

  16. Hello, maybe you didn’t mention it under Features since it might be to obvious for you, but does WPML support a language fallback for pages and posts? So if one post or page is not available in a language it is automatically displayed in an other language. Furthermore is WPML able to detect the browsers language and chooses the page language according to that? Does the plugin use cookies? If yes is there a possibility to deactivate them? Thank you.

  17. Hi, we are planning to have our website in three languages, spanish, english and portuguese. Not all contents w¡ll be available in the three languages, so we would like to be able to choose the language or languages a certain content or entry has. Other plugins refer you to the default language or give a message saying it is only available in a certain language. Is it possible to choose the language for each content we create with your plug-in, or is it defined for the whole website? How does your plug in handle this?
    Thank you.

    • Yes, you can do this with WPML.

The language switcher will only include links to languages that are available. Other pages will simply not have these links. You can use WPML’s standard language switchers or build your own.
