  1. Hi guys,
I was recommended to WPML. I need a good ML plugin for my own blog http://www.mofenghua.com. I have read features of WPML which are very good. However, I still got some questions to ask before I make a purchase.
    1. Can I change the logo’s language of the site?
    2. Can I change all widgets’ language of the site?
    3. Can I change the slideshows’ language, not only on the homepage but also on other webpages?
    4. Which version of WPML is suitable for me?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
    Thank you!
    Sammi

    • 1. Yes, but you might need to edit the header file of your theme a bit.
      2. Yes. You do this with WPML’s String Translation module.
      3. This really depends on how the slideshow was created. If it uses standard WordPress types, it shouldn’t be a problem.
      4. Multilingual CMS.

  2. I’m considering buying the CMS version but after I’m finished the project I may not need to use the plugin for a year or more. If I don’t renew before the end of the first year can I renew later without a penalty?

    • There’s no ‘penalty’. If you don’t need WPML after that, you can leave it alone without renewal. Then, you can always purchase again if you need later. It’s very difficult for us to make exceptions to the renewal terms.

      • But you are saying that I’d have to pay full price again if I didn’t renew on time? Buying it doesn’t allow me to renew later for 50% off.

        • You can renew for 50% while your account is valid. After a year, our system sends renewal reminders. If you don’t renew and the account expires, you can still use what you downloaded, but you cannot download new versions or get support from us. Then, you can purchase again for the full price.

  3. Hello,

i already tried qTranslate but this does not work with “Multiple Content Blocks” Plugin. I need to know if WPML works with Multiple Content Blocks Plugin. This plugin adds another WYISWYG editor to the admin area.

  4. Hi,
I would like to purchase the WPML blog version as I’m not sure that I need all the features of the CMS version. Is it possible to purchase the blog version, then if more features are needed, upgrade to the CMS version?

Also, can WPML be used on multiple sites? Or is a separate purchase required for each site that the script will be used on?

    Thanks!
    Jay

  5. Hello WPML-Team,

I would like to use the WPML Plugin in the CMS version with Booking Calendar’s hotel version. Are there any known issues or will that work smoothly with your plugin? I plan on using the Guesthouse theme by AIT-Themes with it.

    Thanks Silja

    • It’s difficult to say as we haven’t tested WPML with that theme. A calendar application is fairly complex and there are enough things that can go wrong. How about asking AIT-themes people to work with us. If they are interested, we can certainly assign someone to check how the theme and WPML work together.

      • Amir, thanks for the answer. The theme is not that important, but I definitly need some sort of calendar plugin. If Booking Calendar might not work, can you recommend a different one?

  6. Hi

I am looking to purchased the full package but i need some questions answered.

I currently have a standard old version and i am stuck with the following in language options there is a section that says.

    Blog posts to display.
All posts (display translation if it exists or posts in default language otherwise).

This does not work! i have been googling around for a solution. I was wondering if the paid solution supports this? i really need this option working as i have a client that is not happy with the way wmpl redirects if there is not a translation, they want it to show the default language if no translation exists.

Can you please confirm that this works, with the paid solution

    Thanks

    • The ‘all posts’ option works only on the main blog page and not on categories or other taxonomy pages. I’m not sure what version of WPML you’re using and which WordPress version, but the exact same ‘all posts’ mode works fine on our own site.

Additionally, WPML includes a ‘content duplication’ feature that lets you have the same content in different languages. This lets visitors remain on the current language but see content that was originally written in the default language.

      • Hi Amir

        Thanks for the reply.

“but the exact same ‘all posts’ mode works fine on our own site.”

Where is the all posts option? i cant find it anywhere, or the content duplication i can see that you can copy from english option in a german post, As the site is in german and english but they would have to do this for every post and we have already imported over 1000 posts.

Really need to find a solution for this.

        Thanks

  7. We need multi-language, but we must also ensure that the language change flash swf HOME, which raises the xml information.
Can perform as well buy the Multilanguage.

    Please respond to a.roganovich @ ibriscgq.com.ar

    • Yes, you can easily code different flash objects per language. You can do this with a few lines of PHP by using WPML language constants.

  8. Hello. I need to move about 1,000 posts from an existing WordPress site to a new one. Most of the posts have links in the text to other posts on the same site. These are all absolute links. I’m looking for a way to globally change all these absolute links to relative ones so they’ll point to the posts on the new site. Was recommended to this plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/absolute-links/ — which says it is “part of Sitepress”, which leads to your site here. Will this work for my purposes? Do I need to subscribe to the whole service? Thanks.

    • It’s called Sticky Links now and is part of the Multilingual CMS package. WPML’s Sticky Links module can scan your entire site and convert absolute links to relative ones.

      • Thanks. Sounds like what I need. But it’s just for a one time scan. Can i use plugin that I first found? Or do i need to get the whole package?

    • Hello, Just checking in with you on my question from May 5th. I’d asked about changing the links when I have to move a number of posts from one website to another.
You replied: “It’s called Sticky Links now and is part of the Multilingual CMS package. WPML’s Sticky Links module can scan your entire site and convert absolute links to relative ones.”
I replied: “Thanks. Sounds like what I need. But it’s just for a one time scan. Can i use plugin that I first found? Or do i need to get the whole package?”
      Let me know. Thanks.

    • JobRoller has some advanced functionality which is not 100% compatible with WPML. We’re working with the AppThemes people on this, but it’s not all working correctly at the moment.

      • Thanks Amir,
Does it mean that I shouldn’t buy WPML until it’s all sorted out or would you say that I could already use it, even though my website might not get completely translated?
        Cheers

  9. I am currently using the Mingle theme and have used Qtranslate on another site using the same theme. This site is a non profit site but needs to be in 3 languages. The main issue i found with qTranslate is that when performing a search on the site for a string it doesnt return results for content in czech, when done on a site with czech without q translate the czech results display correctly for a string.

So my question is that if i create a page with the 3 languages in it rather than 3 separate pages will i get the results for strings in the correct language?

  10. Hello,

I used a plug-in named “option tree” version 1.1.8.1 on my theme .
I want to know if WPML is compatible with that plug-in . and the “Fast Secure Contact Form” plugin too.

    Thank you very much

    • Sorry, but we haven’t tested WPML with these plugins. If you purchase WPML and have any sort of issues, we can always refund your order.

  11. Hi! I´ve seen that after you install WPML the Custom Menu widget stops working and throw this error message: “Catchable fatal error: Object of class stdClass could not be converted to string in … on line 192”.

Before spending $79 in Multilingual CMS, I want to know if there is a solution for this problem and if there is, what implies it. This is important information in order to choose WPML over qTranslate.

    Thanks in advance. Tom.

  12. I am planning to replace my current static HTML site with a WordPress site using Thesis. The site needs to be in both French and English. I am not particularly technical so need to be able to do most things ‘out of the box’ rather than making lots of code adjustments. WPML looks to be what I need but a few questions:
    1. Can I have menu items/pages on the ENG side but NOT have them on the FR side eg a blog that will be in ENG only?
    2. The content of my sidebar will include things like a link to Trip Advisor which will have a different URL on the ENG side vs the FR side and other things that will not change. Does the plug in simply transfer the ENG content to the FR page leaving me to just change the things that need to be changed? (The format I am used to with Joomfish in Joomla)
3.Do I have a choice of a flag OR a word to denote the other language and if the latter can I make it appear as I wish eg larger quite simply?
    Thank you
    3.

    • 1. Yes. You can create completely separate menus in each language. See here -http://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/translating-menus/
      2. I’m assuming that you’ll use Text widgets for these. You’ll be able to translate their content.
      3. You can choose what to display in the language switcher. This includes flag, native language name or translated language name. If you want to fully customize the language switcher, you can create your own – http://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/custom-language-switcher/

      • Thank you. One final question. As a best prectise is it better/easier to create say the ENG side first and then install WPML or to install WPML straight off before I do anything else?

        • Doesn’t matter. If you’re planning to create a multilingual site, it would be easier to start with WPML and then add all content, but if you first write in English, you can activate WPML later and then add translations.

  13. One last question…
With the CMS version does the plugin translate widget titles, dashboard and backend content?

  14. Hi Support,

Please kindly advise if you WPML multi-languages plugin work with Shopperpress ? will it works with all wordpress themes ??

Your early reply would be appreciated.

    Best Regards,
    Jack

  15. when i try to buy the CMS version through my card it is asking for creating a paypal account i don’t want to open.

i just want to pay on card.

  16. Hi

Building a multi language site, while using a theme which uses Gantry framework. Does plugin work with Gantry framework?

  17. Hi!
I was wondering whether you could suggest any free or premium SEO plugins that would work with the CMS version of WPML, in order to optimize content for different languages ?

  18. Hi,

I have purchased classified plugin and I need to add aditional lanaguages. I have used use transposh pluging for translation, it worked for me, but I am facing unsolvable problem now, therefore, I would like to know if wpml plugin is the perfect solution.

    1. Can I use it to translate classipress plugin, including any wordpress widgets?
    2. I read that this wpml caused some people problem messing up their paylayout and stuff. and I know people from classipress evaluated this plugin, I dont know what was the outcome. do you know if it is headache free?
    3. Which version would you recommend?

    Thanks
    sardarjaf

    • I think that there are some compatibility issues between WPML and ClassiPress. We’ve been working with AppThemes folks, but not everything is resolved.

  19. I have just translated my site using polylang, but the featured post does not work so I am considering changing to WPML.

If I do this, how do I migrate everything I have translated? The permalinks are not so important, mainly the content.

    Many thanks for your help.

  20. Hello,

I’m thinking WPML is what I need. The site is currently in English, but the client base is English & Chinese (Traditional). We thought at first we could get away with blog posts in both languages, but now realize they are just too long (see: http://shmortgage.com/basics).

    1) I’m also realizing that the Theme we use has limitations due to the Gantry Framework plug-in requirement. Does WPML work with the Gantry Framework plug-in?
    2) She wants to distribute the posts via a language specific RSS Feed (which are also fed into MailChimp EMail templates). Can you quickly explain how the RSS Feeds are separated by language? Do they use a category or tag or something like that?

    Thanks,

    Chris

  21. Hi,
Could you give me an idea about when WPML will be 100% compatible with Jobroller? I really need a translated version of my site. If not 100% soon, can I still use it on my site or do you think it will create too many problems?
    Thanks
    Steph
