Hello, one question: if i build and finish the wordpress blog in english with a wp theme and i install the wpml after that, will i be able to translate EVERYTHING in french and make the french version the default one? I am asking this because it`s so much more time consuming to traanslate everything in french and build it in french.
So i wanna build it in english, translate everything in french and have the french version the default one and then other versions available for those who wanna choose them.
Yes. You can install WPML and translate content as you write it, or install it later and translate the completed content.
In your place, I would also first complete my content and proofread it in one language and only then start translating. As you do that, keep in mind that the same content in different languages has different length. Take that into account when you design your site and allow for flexible content lengths.
I bought WPML plugin for CMS yesterday, but when I want to activate it on my wordpress website using Artemis themeforest theme, there is a blank page and impossible to refresh browser… nothing to do?
Different things may cause this, including memory or some conflict. Seeing the PHP error will tell our support folks exactly what’s wrong and they will be able to help you accurately.
If you buy the $29 Blog version now, you can later upgrade to the full $79 CMS version. You will need to pay the difference between the two versions ($50).
I am starting a new multilingual build of our corporate sites. I would like to test the multisite approach and your plugin has been recommended. I will be testing two other plugins.
I would like to test your plugin on a internal dev environment prior to purchase. This is just a testing phase and would help us in making a choice of which plugin to use. Can you supply me with a trial version which has all the functionality of the paid version.
Sorry, but we don’t have trial versions of WPML. You can buy it and if you’re not happy, you’ll receive a full refund. Very few people ask for a refund after buying WPML, but if you need one, you’ll get it immediately.
My client wants their website translated into several languages. When they post in English will the text automatically be translated into the various languages or do they need to be translated manually? i.e. If I type a post/page in English, will it automatically get translated into Swedish for instance or do I need to get the translation done myself and then post into the Swedish ´page´?
we do use the formerly version 1.7.1 of wpml on our website, running best on a wp 2.7.1 – system. now we finally want to upgrade to wp 3.5.x and we realized that you nowadays do sell your formerly free software.
lucidly we would like to pay for it, but need to have answered a question:
does it WPML 2.8 would work without a big fuss after upgrading wp and the plugin itself while keeping all given page contents up and all different language pages will appear in the used known & preferred way as they did before, till now?
Yes, WPML will be able to update from the very old 1.7.1 version. Since this is a major upgrade, you should back up your database before doing so. That’s what we do before we upgrade our theme or any plugin in any of our sites.
Things should remain the same for you, except that you’ll have a whole lot of new functionality and a lot better stability.
ok, sounds fine.
we only have to show up our self-translated pages on the only pages in 4 different languages showing “cms”-website – i’m a little bit unsure if the will cover all our needs, but i think we give a try to “Multilingual Blog”.
Hi, we are running since WPML 2.8.1 on WP 3.5 – all is fine!
Deciding to update WP to version 4.0 gives the question: would WPML 2.8.1 work well together with WP 4.0?
Thanks in advance!
Hi Peter, it is recommended to upgrade WPML to the latest version as well. A lot of changed since 2.8.1. If you encounter any problems don’t hesitate to contact our WPML support forum.
what package do you recommend for my site. under the cms package does the translate theme mean that it wont translate anything in the theme that i have unless i have this package? (on the front end)
The CMS package includes the String Translation module, which you will need to translate strings that don’t belong to posts. This includes the texts in the theme, widgets, tagline, etc.
For this to work with your theme, the theme needs to have the texts wrapped in GetText calls. Most themes do that as standard practice, but it’s a good idea to ask your theme developer and make sure that this is the case.
hello! I wonder if it is possible to have a blog on wordpress for multiple languages, but if each of these ‘pages are edited independently, and if the plugins members area, affiliate program, support are also translated.
Another question is whether it is possible to have the contents of each Idoma sidebar with different widgets …
This is how WPML works. Different languages go to different WordPress pages, so you can have completely independent content for them. I’m not sure how your members area and affiliate program is implemented. If it uses WordPress pages, things should work fine for you.
You can translate content of sidebars. All text widgets will be translatable by WPML’s String Translation module. WPML will also let you translate all titles of any other widget type.
Hello, I have my blog in english and i want to translate EVERYTHING in french. as you previously said, this is possible. however i`m preety sure i won`t be capable to do it myself, and i`d like to have it setup. I mean the wp admin and all that to be in english and everythicng that appears on the blog to be in french. is that possible? can you help me with that after i buy the plugin? also version do i need for that?
Yes, WPML lets you translate your content between any language. Please note that WPML doesn’t do the translation itself. It lets you translate and run multilingual WordPress sites.
ok i`m a little dizzy. is there a way to chat for 5 minutes somewhere? my skype is: henrydemonaco
i just don`t understand this: it does not do the translation itself. but if i go through every post will i have a button that translate that post? cause i`ve seen in some tutorials that you only need t add the + and it will show your desiered language.
i`m totally blank now. i don`t know french, that why i need the plugin to automatically translate an existing post from english to french when i press a button. is that even possible?
You can keep using what you’ve downloaded and it will never expire. To continue getting updates and support from us, you should renew your account. There should be a renewal message when you login to your account.
I think, this thread is a very important question + answer! I’d been searching around for this information on the WPML site for quite a while and couldn’t find it (would expect this to be mentioned in the “purchase” section…). Actually, thanks to this information, i’m finally going to purchase WPML, after a longer research.
Maybe you should think about explaining clearly in the purchase section, what exactly does one purchase for the given price.
Thanks, _dorovogel
If you edited the .mo files of plugins, you will need to update them. You can translate through WPML’s String Translation module and achieve the same. In that case, the translations come from the database and there are no files to synchronize.
Please note, for the French equivalent:
* The domain name changes to egliseamontreal.ca
* The URL is completely in French
* There is no /fr/ code anywhere in the URL
Does WPML have the capability to do the same thing? That is, specifically, when switching from one language to another:
* Completely change the domain name
* Completely translate every single word in the URL
* Eliminate language codes completely from the URL–we just don’t want to see them
I’ve looked at your showcase of WPML sites, and the ones I’ve looked at all seem to use language codes.
I’d appreciate your response to these questions, since they would have a lot to do with our decision to switch to WordPress with WPML.
You can configure WPML to do the exact same thing. The domains will be completely different and no /fr/ in the path. If you want to see the details of WPML’s language URLs, you can find them here: http://wpml.org/tutorials/language-url-options/
Most sites, including our, choose to use languages in directories (/fr/ URL prefix), because this is the simplest to configure and doesn’t require anything in the DNS or Apache. Since you have it running with Joomla, I’m sure that you have that configuration set up already. You will just need to configure WPML to work in different languages in domains and enter the domain names into WPML’s GUI.
Does the software allow wordpress site viewers to change the languages on the published site? If so, how? I downloaded the free version and can see that I change the dashboard language but I do not see the option to change on the site itself. Please help. thanks.
WPML lets your visitors select in what language they want to see the site. There is no automated translation here. The selecting is between languages that you have translated in. They will see the content that you have translated.
I’m not sure what free version you are referring to. Can you please tell me?
Good day! I have urgent presale question. Is this WPML reseller legal and can I expect your customer support, updates and other advantages buying from him?
No, this site is not related to us and not reselling WPML. I don’t know what you get if you pay $10 there. You might get a hacked version of WPML and you might get a plugin that hacks your client sites later.
Generally speaking, we have no resellers. There are affiliates who recommend WPML and refer clients to wpml.org, but it’s not offered from any other website.
Hi!
I tried to buy version for 79$ with Google Checkout, but it said, that You’re not shipping to my address (in Latvia). Why should you ship anything at all? How can I buy it? If using checkout isn’t possible, is it possible to use direct payment and get the invoice?
Sorry about the delayed reply. We just did a test purchase of WPML from your country and it appears to be working for us. Google may have additional settings that are outside of our control. We don’t request physical delivery and don’t restrict the countries of buyers.
I’d like to know what happen if an article or page is not yet translated in a different language.
Where the different language link point if a translation is not available?
You can tell WPML how to treat untranslated content. The options are:
* Not link to languages without translation
* Link to the homepage of languages if translations are missing
Hi
Somewhere I think I saw that templatics theme real Estate 2 is Multilingual with WPML.
Well, it is’nt
The template is multi with WPML but not the custom fields and translating a site to multi when all results are still only viewable in english is pretty meaningless.
When trying to find a solution I saw that your Gravity form is multi.
Can I use that to a real estate template and decide what info should be viewable on the front page instead of the built in “form”?
I’m not sure about the issues with the Templatic theme. If it’s supposed to work with WPML, our developers can certainly help Templatic developers make everything compatible. They just need to ask and we’ll help.
WPML translates forms created by Gravity Forms. Please note that this refers to the forms and not the content that people submit. I don’t really know how you build the entire site with GF and the theme, but everything in the form should by fully translatable.
WPML doesn’t change anything in your site’s themes. The only element that it adds is the language switcher, which is compact and works fine on responsive sites.
I have paid for the Multilingual Blog version with PayPal and have not received anything from you. I have tried various contact methods including the email you have with PayPal and the phone number. I have failed to get any response so now I am trying here. Your phone number with PayPal goes to a company on Hong Kong who have no idea who you are.
Alex, I’m really sorry about this. There seems to have been some very short communication gap between PayPal and our server, which made your order not process. I’ve created your account manually now and also set it to have downloads for life, without needing to renew your WPML account.
You should have gotten an email with the new account login. Go to http://wpml.org/shop/account/ to log in. Then, click on Downloads to get WPML.
The phone connected to the PayPal account is for our legal folks. They really have no idea about the company’s products (but they’re nice people).
Update – I posted the request below and it was removed without receiving any response – I am sure it is a small issue that can be resolved easily but please don’t remove it without any acknowledgement as it looks bad. thanks…

WPML doesn’t translate the content. It’s a tool that lets you translate yourself, or by translators.
Have a look here for different ways to translate content with WPML:

What happen with translated files when i update any plugin or theme?, do i need to do translate language files again?
The translations for your site are stored in the database. No matter what files you update, translations don’t change.
What about plugins with a .mo files i have modified?, do i need to download and rsync?
If you edited the .mo files of plugins, you will need to update them. You can translate through WPML’s String Translation module and achieve the same. In that case, the translations come from the database and there are no files to synchronize.
We currently use Joomla with the Joomfish multilingual extension, but we’re considering switching to WordPress. Our site is in English (http://churchinmontreal.ca), French (http://egliseamontreal.ca) and Chinese (http://ch.churchinmontreal.ca). My question is only about the English and the French versions:
The site is still under construction, but at present when we click on the language switcher (top right corner) from any page in English to go to French, it switches to a fully French URL. For example, from the English page http://churchinmontreal.ca/index.php/truth/seekers.html, switching to French goes to http://egliseamontreal.ca/index.php/verite/recherche.html.
Please note, for the French equivalent:
* The domain name changes to egliseamontreal.ca
* The URL is completely in French
* There is no /fr/ code anywhere in the URL
Does WPML have the capability to do the same thing? That is, specifically, when switching from one language to another:

If it is possible to get a bill on the name of the business, then it would work. I’ll check out
Yes. When you buy from us you get a tax invoice. You can put your business information on it.
