  1. Hi Guys,

before proceed with the purchase i would like to know if is working with the arabic language, and if the layout of my template will “switch” following the RTL mode.

Now my english web site have the side bar on the right, once is in arabic the side bar will be on the left?

    thank you very much

    • WPML sets the language for your site and tells WordPress that it should load the RTL CSS. However, your theme should include that CSS file. Many themes, including the default TwentyEleven theme include RTL CSS files. You should check with your theme author and see if the theme comes with that file.

Also, you are invited to read about how we’ve added RTL support for our own site:
      http://wpml.org/2011/12/adding-rtl-support-for-theme/

      • Hi Amir,

thank you very much for your answer.

Unfortunately my theme doesn’t include the RTL CSS file…are you offering support regarding this?

I took a look at your post
        http://wpml.org/2011/12/adding-rtl-support-for-theme/

do you think i can use the tool CSSJanus to convert my current CSS?
I learn quite fast but i’m new in wordPress and coding…so i need to understand how much complicated is it.

        thank you very much

  2. Hi there,

does WPML work with WPMU themes?

Does the 29.- version translate menues as well?

    Thanks a lot,
    Fabian

    • We didn’t get to test WPML with many WPMU themes. The ones we did worked fine. The basic ‘Blog’ version, costing $29, includes menu translation. You can buy it and see how it works with your theme. If you encounter any issues, our support staff will be happy to assist. We should be able to get it working for you.

  3. hi,

i am doing freelance work for clients. after the job is done, they get the stuff and handle upgrades / updates etc in their instance of wordpress.

how does the cms-license of wpml fit into this model?

right now i am under the impression that the wpml-license is bound to a person.

    cheers,
    mg

    • It should be just fine for you. You’ll install WPML on your client’s site and they will be able to upgrade automatically from the WordPress admin. For that, we have an ‘installer’ plugin that handles the automated upgrades. Have a look here:
      http://wpml.org/faq/install-wpml/

      • so, my client relies on “my” credentials to log into wpml-site to get upgrades?
how would i handle the situation that i want to hand over a “licence”?
am i able to “resell” a license?

        cheers,
        mg

  4. Hello,

I picked up a free version of WPML about 5 months ago via WordPress and have been building Chinese and Spanish pages ever since– not knowing that there were pay-versions. It looks like I’m unable to translate themes/footers/headers/static data with this version of WPML.

My very important question is: After all the work I’ve done translating our pages (about 50 pages), if I purchase WPML-CMS (which seems to address the problems I’m having), will I lose my work or will the new version allow me to transition with the pages that I have done already???

Please, please let me know as soon as possible your thoughts on this.
    Thanks,
    George

    • You will not lose any settings. When you install a new version of WPML, all your settings will be maintained, along with the translations and language information.

  5. Hi, sorry if it was already asked, but i’m not sure to understand what version i need to purshase, blog or CMS ? Are these features ok with the blog version ?
    – translate blog entries
    – translate pages entries
    – translate navigation menu
    – add a custom language with its custom flag
    – is the “the event calendar” with its “events list widget” supported ?
    Thanks a lot !

    • I’m not sure about the event calendar and what it requires. You can start with the basic Blog version. It includes everything that you mentioned, but is missing WPML’s String Translation module, which lets you translate texts that are not part of any post. For example, the tagline and widgets are such texts.

You can start with the Blog version and if you conclude that you need the complete functionality, you can always upgrade to the complete CMS version and pay the difference.

  6. I have a customer who has several domains, each for a different country/language. Is it possible to use those different domains within one installation of WordPress and have different content for each domain? And with different content I don’t mean different by just adding other text to a post, but different pages or posts and/or widgets. So in english there would be a slider and in german no slider.

I know this is somehow related to WP itself, but can I use WPML to achieve this?

    • Yes. WPML lets you place different languages in different domains, all coming from the same WordPress database. Content in different languages can be completely different. Regarding sliders, it really depends how you create them. Some slider plugins let you create different sliders per language, so it will work like you describe. Many themes include built-in slider functionality. Some work well in multilingual sites and some less well. We would be happy to review this with the author of your theme and make sure that everything works correctly for multilingual sites.

      • Hello Amir,

Would this also work if I used WPMU together with WPML? Each domain would have slightly different templates and a unique team of editors.

  7. Thanks for the answer. I use Pagelines since a couple of month, no regular themes. It would be great if I could translate all the sections in PL, like their boxes and banners etc., but also be able to disable any boxes on different sites. For instance show boxset 1 (consisting of two boxes) on the german site and boxset 2 (consisting of three boxes) on the english site.

  8. New to Word Press.

I only have blogs and need to allow my readers to change the contents of my blog to their language.

    Will this program do this?

    Thanks

    • Yes. WPML is exactly for you. It will allow you to add more languages to your WordPress site(s). Then, visitors can choose in what language they want to read.

    • Thanks for the fast response. I am not a ‘web designer’, is it easy to install? My Word Press is through Go Daddy.

  9. For WPML woocommerce multi-currency:

Are you able to limit shipping destinations by language/currency?

I.e. If a visitor in on the “chinese” page/checkout – he will only be able to choose China as a shipping destination. And if you go to an “indian” page/checkout – he will only be able to choose India as a shipping destination.

  10. Hi,

As a freelance I’d like to install your Blog version for some clients.
My question is if after on year using the automatic updates will my clients have to buy newly a Blog version or is there just an 1 year-update-fee avalaible ?

    Cheers,

    NIck

    • WPML gets automatic updates from within the WordPress admin. As long as your account is valid, your clients will enjoy free upgrades. If you don’t renew your account, your clients will not be able to upgrade WPML.

We are working on our e-commerce system and are going to add a ‘lifetime’ account option. This way, you pay once and never have to worry about renewals. Existing account holders will be able to upgrade to that option and pay the difference in the account costs.

    • WPML itself is translated to Arabic and will load Arabic translation for WordPress for you. However, you might be using other plugins and a theme which is not translated to Arabic.

  11. Hello, what is the “CMS navigation” Option, in the Multilingual CMS version of the product? Im considering the purchase of the Blog version, but curious what does the cms navi bring. Greetings

    • Today most sites don’t use WPML’s CMS Navigation. It’s pretty useful, but many themes have their own native navigation structures. If you buy the Blog version and see that you need other modules that are only available in the full CMS version, you can always upgrade later and pay only the difference in the price.

    • Classipress developers have created a glue plugin that makes it compatible with WPML. We haven’t built complete classified sites with Classipress and WPML, so we can’t tell for sure. Things should work and we cooperate with Classipress developers to resolve any issues that might pop up.

  12. Dont know if my comment was deleted. Wanted to ask, what is it about the “CMS Navigation” ? Doest the economic version doenst have management form the wordpress admin panel ? Greets

    • Your comment was not deleted. It was just not showing as it was ‘pending moderation’ until just a minute ago. You don’t need the CMS Navigation module to translate standard WordPress menus. This is included in the basic Blog version.

  13. No working emails, no reply, no pre-sale care … IT IS RIDICULOUS …! What do you want to do?! 😀 How about customer’s care?! 😀

No way guys …. ! SO?!

    • Sorry. I missed your previous comment. Let me answer here, so that my reply is not lost too.

At the moment, there’s no way to completely disable every mention of translation in WPML. It’s not the first time that we’re asked for it and we’re going to add it to WPML. We will be adding this as a constant in the wp-config.php file. This way, when you install a site and you know that you don’t need any sort of translation from anyone but yourself, you can declare that constant and be rid of all the options that are not relevant for you.

Would that be OK for you, or are you looking for something else?

  14. Hello,

Where setting up a wordpress page + woocommerce using wpml.

Al the wordpresspages and woocommercepages are translated ( manual ), but the woocommerce automated tekst and buttons are not. Also the categories in the url ar not working good ( categrie en after translating it is category ), but the woocommerce can not find the category. And the checkout page in not translated.

What do i need to use wmpl and woommerce.

I read somting about stringtranslation, but i cant not find it ( to by it and download it ). But is this the plugin i need to have the woommerce working correctly?.

    Thanx Cremers

  15. Apologies if this was already asked, but I would like to know if I can automatically display the “localized” version of my website to the visitor based on something like IP Address, for example, without the need for them to select their native language from a list. So, if I were a visitor from France, upon loading the site, I would see the French translations rather than the English version and me having to choose the French translation icon. Hope this question is clear.

    Thanks in advance

    • WPML doesn’t do the actual content translation for you. It allows you to run a multilingual WordPress site, so that one WordPress installation includes several languages. You can translate yourself or get others to translate the content.

  16. Hi – I have previously purchased WPML and the renewal period ended 9 months ago. I just tried to buy Multilingual Blog and got a message You cannot purchase this product .

Why must I buy “Multilingual CMS” ?

    Thanks – John

    • It’s a know bug in the current version of our e-commerce system. We’re working to fix it in an upgrade, which will be online in about 2 weeks. In the meanwhile, if you want to purchase the Blog version, you can use a different email. Would that work for you?

  17. Thanks for the great feedback here. It answered most of my questions. My final concern is regarding client’s sites. I see that they will continue to get updates as long as I maintain my membership, but does my membership include dev rights… Will I need to purchase a new membership with each site that I install WPML on?

I’m strongly getting the impression that I can instal one purchase on multiple sites, but I want to be sure.

    Thanks again!

    • When you buy WPML, you can build as many client sites as you need. With a single subscription, you can build multilingual sites for all your clients. They will all be able to auto-update WPML from within the WordPress admin, as long as your subscription is valid.
