Tell us what you are trying to do?
I have a large number of redirects required that point to Zendesk Guide articles. Using WPML the links are also translated which therefore requires a redirect for every language / link combination. Is it possible to make this much easier by NOT translated the URL, but simply only adding the language code?

Is there any documentation that you are following?
No.

Is there a similar example that we can see?
Yes. Referred attached.
In English:
Learn More under Body therapies hidden link
Redirects to hidden link
However, in French
Learn More under Body therapies
Redirects to hidden link (and fails).
Instead this should be hidden link (language code inserted, no translation).

What is the link to your site?
hidden link

Hello,

At the moment the slug is created by using the page title, therefore as the page title is translated so is the permalink.

Please go to WPML->Settings->Translated documents options -> Page URL -> Translate (this will include the slug in the translation and not create it automatically from the title)

This will no longer use the page title but now will allow you to translate the permalink, in this case you could 'copy' the default language URL and save the translation.

Do note that if you use the Automatic Translation you will need to edit this when reviewing the translation. Also, this will only take effect for new translations moving forward.

For the existing translations, you can go to pages-> switch to the French language for example, and quick edit these pages or posts changing the permalink.

Let me know your results, please.

Thanks. What do you mean by this, "This will no longer use the page title but now will allow you to translate the permalink, in this case you could 'copy' the default language URL and save the translation."?

When you say, "For the existing translations, you can go to pages-> switch to the French language for example, and quick edit these pages or posts changing the permalink." as per attached I need to do this for 5 x 28 pages? (or 140 times)

Hello,

For #1.

At the moment the settings are set up to take the translation of the page/post title and use that as the permalink.

By changing the setting it will no longer do this but instead add the permalink as it's own translation field in the translation editor.

When translating a page using the translation editor you are able to copy the value from the default language to the translation. (try this using a new demo page to see it's behavior)

For #2

Yes, unfortunately, WPML does not have a feature to change the permalink of pages/posts in bulk.

You could find a custom solution to this possibly or a SQL query that would help, but I am not familiar with any. (Please note custom solutions are outside the scope of our support which is why I am not able to develop one)

Okay. From an SEO perspective does WPLML recommend translating the slug (e.g. /fr/méditation) or not (e.g. /fr/mediation)?

I would recommend doing some research on this topic as this is a bit outside of our expertise, but here are some topics I found

Okay. For SEO purposes I think we need the default setup where the language and translated description are the norm (e.g. /fr/méditation) .

Now that I have a mix of two formats (e.g. /fr/méditation) and (e.g. /fr/mediation-fr) how do I align them to the same?

To edit the permalink of existing translations you would have to manually edit them.

You can go to pages -> switch to French -> quick edit the page and change the permalink.
