Hello.
I need help with a website.

This product category hidden link shows the template of this product category hidden link (the default category), although it has its own template assigned to it.

I created a staging website, and by deactivating all plugins found out that WPML is the one causing the issue.

Please help.

How can I safely share access to my staging environment with you?
Best,
Evgeny

Hello Evgeny,

Thank you for contacting the support.

I can see the same template on both URLs. Can you please fix “WP Memory Limit” to at least 128MB while 256MB is recommended. See https://wpml.org/home/minimum-requirements/ for detailed information. You can set this in your wp-config.php file by adding following code:

define( 'WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '128M' );
define( 'WP_MAX_MEMORY_LIMIT', '256M' );

Remember to add these lines before the line where it says:
/* That's all, stop editing! Happy publishing. */

Then open the template for editing, make a little change, save, translate and check again?

If this doesn't resolve the problem, then please provide admin access to your staging site.

Remember to take full backup of your website and database before proceeding.

Also provide detailed steps to reproduce the issue and links to pages in admin and on frontend.

I've set your next reply as private to share this information safely.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

I've checked several things in your staging site, including updating Elementor, WPML, Astra theme and WordPress to latest versions, as well as, a suspected issue reported for something similar (https://wpml.org/errata/divi-product-category-archive-template-not-applied-to-translated-category-archive/).

But nothing seems to work. However, when I deactivate WPML String Translation plugin (only), it seemed to work fine.

Sometimes it looks like server stops responding, specially when trying to exit Elementor editor.

So to eliminate any server vs WPML related problems, I'll request you to use this sandbox hidden link which is a fresh one and has all the most-required plugins installed (not active).

You can use this plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/download-plugins-dashboard/ in your site to download theme and plugins in a zip file (separately) and can upload in the sandbox. I tried installing this but getting 500 internal server error.

Then please setup a basic example and try to reproduce the issue.

Please let me know once you are ready or need help setting up.

Hi. Thank you for your answer. Sorry, I do not understand - if deactivating String translation does the job, then obviously, the problem is somewhere there. And how does creating a Sandbox without fully copying the website, including the database can help us move things along?

Its not about copying the whole site. It's just that reproducing the issue with minimal setup.

For example, add only the theme and the plugin(s) needed to create your template. WPML plugins are already there, which you can activate and setup as you did on your site.

This way we can see that if the issue can be reproduced in a fresh installation or is it happening in your site only (due to an installation problem and/or DB corruption). So we can then look into that particular direction.

See https://wpml.org/faq/how-to-reproduce-issues-and-share-them-with-wpml-support/ for details.

Good morning. I haven't been able to reproduce the issue. I copied all the plugins and themes, activated everything like in the original website, and moved the Elementor templates in question. After assigning the templates to the categories, everything is working as expected. What is the next step? Thanks.

Thank you for trying on the sandbox.

This means the issue is somehow related to either your DB or the Server config.

May I ask for a copy of your website (not the sandbox) to test locally? This way I'll be able to figure out the problem more efficiently. Please see https://wpml.org/faq/provide-supporters-copy-site/ for more details.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

I was able to create and download a package of your staging site. I'm setting this up on my local and 'll investigate the issue accordingly. This may take little more time but I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

I've escalated the matter to our 2nd tier team for detailed investigation. Please keep the staging site up, although I've also provided the package (along with the sandbox site for comparison).

I'll update you as soon as I hear back.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

Team checked and found no issue and in fact they found it working just fine:

- hidden link
- hidden link

However, during the testing, I updated theme, activated WCML, deactivated/activated String Translation a few times to observe the problem and tried to update Elementor. Other than that I opened the templates for checking conditional logic, which was fine, so I just closed 'em without making any change.

I also updated templates translations by just opening these in translation editor and saving.

Perhaps something triggered the DB correction and we see it working fine.

Can you please check, try to reproduce and confirm? It'll great if you can record your screen, in case if you can reproduce the problem and share with me.

I tried to reproduce the steps you mentioned to resolve it on the production site but to no avail. The only time that it works is when I deactivate the strings translation plugin. I really do not know how to move forward with this. Maybe your 2nd level support can have a look at the production?

Thank you for the updates.

Yes sure, I can request to check on the production. Please make sure you've taken full backup of site and database before providing the access.

Also please note that usually we do not work on live sites due to high risks. During this practice we may need to activate/deactivate plugins and switch themes.

Please make sure to provide WP Admin and FTP access to the production site.
