[Waiting for user feedback] my site breaks every time there is wpml update
This is the technical support forum for WPML - the multilingual WordPress plugin.
Everyone can read, but only WPML clients can post here. WPML team is replying on the forum 6 days per week, 22 hours per day.
Our wait time is higher than usual, please make sure you are meeting the minimum requirement - https://wpml.org/home/minimum-requirements before you report issues, and if you can take a look at current Known Issues - https://wpml.org/known-issues/. Thank you.
Background of the issue:
My site breaks every time there is a WPML update. I am not trying to do anything specific, but users report my site is broken again. This is the same problem as my previous ticket. The issue can be seen on this page: hidden link
Symptoms:
The site breaks all the time
Questions:
Why does my site break?
How can I prevent my site from breaking?
Thanks for contacting us. I will need to closely examine your website. Therefore, I will require temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP) to a test site where the problem has been replicated, if possible. This will enable me to provide better assistance and determine if any configurations need to be modified.
Please note that it is important to have a backup for security purposes and to prevent any potential data loss. You can use the UpdraftPlus plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/updraftplus/) to fulfill your backup requirements.
Your upcoming reply will be treated with confidentiality and will only be visible to you and me.
✙ To resolve the issue, I may need your consent to deactivate and reactivate plugins and the theme, as well as make configuration changes on the site if necessary. This emphasizes the significance of having a backup.
Dear friend/supporter, why did you update the plugin? I knew the problem goes away if i update the wpml plugin. Are you able please to read the conversation on my previous ticket here? This is the third ticket i am opening asking to fix this with no success so far. Thank you!!!
Thanks for your reply. May I know which previous ticket you are referring to? Could you share the ticket link here? Also, I've doubled checked your Website and I still cannot find any issues with broken layout.
The problem is visible on the screenshots i added, once you updated wpml plugins it got fixed. The ticket i was referring is a chat ticket: Dear customer,
Ticket "my site breaks is broken in all languages" has been marked as Resolved by supporter.
Below is transcript of the chat:
my site breaks is broken in all languages
Waqas Bin Hasan : Hi, thank you for contacting the support.
Please allow me to read and understand about the issue and I\'ll be with you in a minute.
savvasc-2 : Hi! Thank you.
savvasc-2 : As per my last ticket, support suggested i update on staging enviroment. I created the staging site, did not update anything, and pages on staging site show fine with no problem.
Waqas Bin Hasan : Thank you for waiting.
Can you please deactivate any caching plugins then simply try this?
- Open the page having this issue in default language for editing.
- Just make a small change like a dot or word.
- Save.
- Update translation.
And recheck.
Waqas Bin Hasan : hidden link
Waqas Bin Hasan : As you can see this is the CSS not being loaded and it is coming from cache.
savvasc-2 : sure i can. it is a diferent page that i see this every time i see it happening.
Waqas Bin Hasan : Yes please, try disabling cache and that minification plugin like Breeze also temporarily.
savvasc-2 : breeze, object cache pro and varnish or just breeze now?
Waqas Bin Hasan : Anything which is caching, currently I see Breeze and Object Cache Pro, please try to deactivate both for now.
savvasc-2 : ok
savvasc-2 : i did it for the /location page. does not look like it is fixed
Waqas Bin Hasan : hidden link
This is even in default language has the problem.
Waqas Bin Hasan : Did you \"deactivate\" the plugins?
savvasc-2 : yes i deactivated the two plugins. The pages always show fine in the wordpress backend
Waqas Bin Hasan : Can you provide me temporary WP Admin and FTP access to your website for further debugging?
There is a private form to send the login details, titled \"WordPress admin and server access\", below this chat.
See https://wpml.org/purchase/support-policy/privacy-and-security-when-providing-debug-information-for-support/ for details on privacy and security.
savvasc-2 : sure, now
Waqas Bin Hasan : Have you taken fresh and full backup of your site and database?
Waqas Bin Hasan : Please confirm so that I can login and check for the issue.
savvasc-2 : done automatic every six hours from cloudaways, i havent changed anything recently. Will i be ok?
Waqas Bin Hasan : I think so, as long as you\'re able to recover from a backup if things go sideways.
savvasc-2 : yes
Waqas Bin Hasan : Let me check for the issue, I\'ll ask before making any change.
savvasc-2 : Thank you so much!!!
Waqas Bin Hasan : Check now hidden link in incognito mode or without login to your site.
savvasc-2 : it looks good now
Waqas Bin Hasan : The problem is clearly from the Breeze cache plugin. In fact, it is not a problem, but the above mentioned setting was set to expire after a very long time.
Waqas Bin Hasan : So I\'ve set it to default 1440 (1 Day), so it is expired in 24 hours and cache is refreshed.
savvasc-2 : ok great! i hope this is fixed now for good. Thank you
Waqas Bin Hasan : Yes I hope so too.
I\'ll close the chat for now, please feel free to contact again anytime.
Based on the conversation you've shared, it appears to be a cache-related issue. Have you tried clearing both your website(Breeze) and browser cache?
You also mentioned, "The problem is visible on the screenshots I added. Once you updated the WPML plugins, it got fixed." — so it seems the issue was resolved after updating the WPML plugins. Could you clarify what the concern is, given that everything appears to be working now?
From my end, the location page displays correctly in all languages, as shown in the screenshot.
Yes i have cleared all cache and problem does not go away. Browser cache can't be the solution to this because once it appears it is there on all the devices that i test. I think the supporter of the previous ticket was able to see the broken pages. The concern is that every couple of days this problem appears. Updating plugins and wpml solves it every time. But this is not a solution as i can't do that every couple of days don't you think?
Thank you for the update. In most cases, cache-related issues are resolved after clearing both your browser cache and the cache from your caching plugin. Could you please double-check that the cache plugin has also been cleared?
If the issue still persists, we recommend trying a different browser or using an incognito/private window to see if the problem continues there. This will help us determine if it’s a browser-specific issue.
Let us know the outcome so we can assist you further if needed.
Alright then, feel free to contact us again if you need anything further.
