Url rewriting is not active

This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client is unable to switch languages using the URL rewriting option in WPML. They receive an error message indicating that 'languages per directories will not function' due to potential issues with WordPress installation location, URL rewriting not being enabled on the web server, or the web server's inability to write to the .htaccess file.

Solution:
We recommend the following steps to troubleshoot the issue:
1. Set the Language URL Format in WPML settings.
2. Visit the front end of your website to check if it displays correctly.
- If the front end displays as expected, the error message is a false-positive, and you can continue using the URL Structure without any issues.
- If you encounter an error 500, a blank page, or an error 503 on the front end, and it's resolved by changing the URL Structure, then further investigation is needed.

ilkerK-2	Hi there, I want to switch languages with the option URL rewriting. When I try to select that option there is a red below the message. I have tried to fix it but have not been able to do. Details This can be a result of either: WordPress is installed in a directory (not root) and you're using default links. URL rewriting is not enabled in your web server. The web server cannot write to the .htaccess file"

Bobby WPML Supporter since 04/2015 Languages: English (English ) Timezone: America/Los_Angeles (GMT-07:00)	Hello, This is a common false-positive notice, and the best way to verify this is by setting the Language URL Format and visiting the front end. if the front end is displaying as expected, then this is verified as a false negative and you can continue using the URL Structure without problems if you are seeing an error 500, blank page or error 503 in the front end and its resolved by changing the URL Structure then we will need to further inspect the issue.
