Background of the issue:
I edited the name of the Languages from English and French to EN and FR in the Languages section. Then I went to the Language Switcher settings, and changed from flag to Current Language, which then made the entire language switcher disappear. Nothing I do to change any settings gets it back.
If it helps, I created a French language menu because the Menu Synchronisation wasn't translating everything in the menu. I did that just before editing the language names and the language switcher. But the language switcher doesn't show on either language menu.
