Background of the issue:
I am trying to add a translation to the master page. The default language on my site is English, but when I choose to translate the page, it sets the original language to Italian instead of English. You can see the issue on this page: hidden link

Symptoms:
The original language is set to Italian instead of English when translating the page. I expected the translation to be from English to Norwegian, but it is from Italian to Norwegian.

Questions:
Why is the original language set to Italian instead of English when translating?
How can I ensure the translation is from English to Norwegian?

Hi,

Thank you for contacting WPML support. Before your ticket is assigned to one of my colleagues, please allow me to walk you through some initial debugging steps. This will help speed up the support process.

Would you please share screenshots or a screen-recorded video while reproducing the issue?

Best regards,

Default language on the website is english(screenshot: wpml1.png), on every translation original language is english(screenshots: wpml2.png,wpml3.png), only when Norwegian language is being translated it sets the original language as Italian(screenshot: wpml4.png), this should be resolved, we need to have the english source(original language) on Norwegian translation aswell.

Thanks for your reply.

I will need to closely examine your website. Therefore, I will require temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP) to a test site where the problem has been replicated, if possible. This will enable me to provide better assistance and determine if any configurations need to be modified.

Please note that it is important to have a backup for security purposes and to prevent any potential data loss. You can use the UpdraftPlus plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/updraftplus/) to fulfill your backup requirements.

Your upcoming reply will be treated with confidentiality and will only be visible to you and me.

✙ To resolve the issue, I may need your consent to deactivate and reactivate plugins and the theme, as well as make configuration changes on the site if necessary. This emphasizes the significance of having a backup.

I'm getting this error now. Looks like you have insufficient memory on the server. Could you check?

I'm still getting the same error. Could you share this debug log file to your hosting provider? They should know what's going on.

It works on our side,it's hosted on our server, I installed plugin to check the memory limit, and it's set to 1024MB, and the site is trying to allocate 200mbs, so this should be working, It works on our side, can you please try again.

You fixed the memory issue but the PHP becomes 8.3 again. Could you reduce only the PHP version to 8.1?

Thanks for your reply.

Now I'm getting the memory error again.

16-Oct-2024 07:51:01 UTC] PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 268435456 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 372736 bytes) in /home/forge/mip.the-northwest.com/public/wp-includes/class-wpdb.php on line 2315

You need to switch to PHP 8.1 and increase the memory limit for this version. The configuration should be separated. If you're still not clear how to do this, maybe you can consult your hosting provider.
