This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
In post type posts, taxonomy tags are all automatically translated, but 99% of them are just copies of the English version.
Solution:
If you're experiencing this issue, we recommend you navigate to WPML > Taxonomy Translation, select the Tags Taxonomy in the dropdown menu, and manually edit the translations. If you prefer to have them all automatically translated, you can follow the technique outlined here: https://wpml.org/faq/how-to-translate-all-taxonomy-terms-at-once/. Please ensure to delete all the existing taxonomy translations before applying this method.

This solution might be irrelevant if it's outdated or not applicable to your case. We highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If the issue persists, please open a new support ticket at WPML support forum.

Hey there,

It seems the fields were indeed all copied from the original. To fix that, you can go to WPML > Taxonomy Translation, select the Tags Taxonomy in the dropdown menu and edit the translations.

If you wish to have them all automatically translated, you can use this technique:
https://wpml.org/faq/how-to-translate-all-taxonomy-terms-at-once/

Please note that you'll need to delete all the taxonomy translations before doing so.

we never had any manual translations in the site and everything is automatically translated. Could this be a bug from wpml and if so, we paid with credits for those "copied" translations

since those tags were already "copied", we tried deleting the copied tags and then create a test page and assigned all tags to it and translated. now the tags are all translated but they aren't assigned to each posts correctly for the other languages

Hello,

The links may have been indeed copied from the original. WPML offers that feature.

If the taxonomies are all translated, to sync them with the posts, you can go to WPML > Taxonomy Translation > Hierarchy Synchronization tab and sync them. Here's a more detailed explanation on how to do that:
https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/translating-post-categories-and-custom-taxonomies/#maintaining-your-taxonomy-structure-across-languages

Please let me know if, this way, the taxonomy behaves as expected.
