Background of the issue:
I am trying to use the automatic translation feature on my site hidden link with WPML.

Symptoms:
There is a problem connecting to automatic translation. I receive a message to check my internet connection and try again. I have deactivated all plugins as previously advised by support, but the issue persists.

Questions:
Can you assist us in resolving the issue with the automatic translation feature?

Hi there,

Please go to WPML->Support->ATE Error logs and share with me the top 5 errors logged on that page.

Also, please review your Home and Site URLs in the database table wp_options, and verify that they are the same URL for both entries.

When I review the URL we have in our system registered for the automatic translation system I see hidden link but under HomeURL i see hidden link

For the URL, we have set hidden link as the home URL because we want the website to open in English. Is this the source of the issue? Can we make this URL also the same one on automatic translation feature as well?

Yes, changing the URL could cause issues as the system does not recognize it when pulling the data.

The current setup is not recommended overall as it can cause other issues, mostly unexpected behavior and redirects at times or timeouts.

If you wish for EN to be the default language the suggested configuration is to do the following:

- Change the WPML default language to English
- Check the box in WPML->Languages under the Language URL Format to enable the use of directories with the default language

NOTE: Always have a recent and working backup before making any changes recommended by our team or a 3rd party

The WPML default language is English and has been English from the beginning. Also the Use directory for default language checkbox was checked as well. Are there any additional options I have to check?

And also doesn't the URL by default get /en at the end when the websites default language is English?

I don't see other options I could tweak to fix the automatic translation feature on the plugin.

Can you please let me know if there should be changes on our side or yours to have this feature active?

I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to test the issue.
(preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated if possible)

**Before we proceed It is necessary to take FULL BACKUP of your database and your website. Providing us with access, you agree that a backup has been taken **

I often use the Duplicator plugin for this purpose: http://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/
You will find the needed fields for this below the comment area when you log in to leave your next reply.
The information you enter is private which means only you and I have access to it.

NOTE: If access to the live site is not possible and the staging site does not exist please provide me with a duplicator package created with the duplicator plugin.

Unfortunately we can't give access to the website yet, we are still working on a solution for this.

The automatic translations run on an external server which is linked with your site.

There may occur issues, if the site is not registered correctly, which can happen if the server or the site URL changes.

For example, this error:

"uploaded xliff file doesn't belong to this system"

This usually only can happen, if the XLIFF was generated on a different WordPress Site, different server or different site URL.

The reason could be that the home URL was set to hidden link.

You do not really need to set this URL - WPML will handle the redirect automatically, but you should take care of hidden link by creating a root page or a template redirect.

We can sadly not offer video calls, and it is very difficult us to debug such an issue without having access to the site, but it would be helpful if you could provide some screenshots form the following screen:
