Tell us what you are trying to do?
- Hi. I was asked to "split" my original multi-language site into separate sites for each language so we could optimize local google results in several countries under new domain names.
I cloned the site to new domain spaces and removed the extra languages from each, so only English (original) and the local translation existed.
I then swapped the default language from English to the local language (let's use French as an example).
I then disabled English, but did not remove the files associated with it. (Disabled as our agency complains that this we create duplicate English sites and cause Google issues)
Now, I discover that I cannot edit product fields as they are locked, and only editable in the original language.

So, the question is:
- Can I somehow edit the products with only the new default language enabled?
- And if not, if I have to re-enable English, what's the best way to "hide" a language from Google? (no-robots the language language root folder maybe?)

What is the link to your site?

Hello There,
Thanks for contacting WPML Support. I will try my best to assist you in this matter.

I understand what you're looking for. Please be informed that if you translated a product from English to French and later change the default language to French, the source language of the product will remain English, since the product was created when English was the active language.

Additionally, if you attempt to edit such a product, you will find that the fields are locked. This is because the products appearing in French are translated versions, and these translated products cannot be edited manually from the WordPress editor to avoid potential issues in the database.

Now, since you intend to keep the English language disabled, the only solution I can suggest for editing the product is to disconnect the translation from its original language. Kindly check the guide below to understand the overall procedure.

In this way, the product will be counted as an independent post and you'll be able to that product as per your needs.

If you want, you can also hide a language that will hide all the corresponding contents from the site and search engine as well. To do so, please check the documentation below.

I hope it will help. But, if you need further assistance on this, feel free to let me know. I will be happy to help.

Best Regards,
Prosenjit
