This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client added a new WPML site key to their new page and needs to translate just the strings of the site initially, but plans to use automatic translation for all text later. They are concerned about enabling automatic translation prematurely.
Solution:
We recommend selecting the 'Translate What You Choose' mode initially to control what gets translated. Later, when the site is complete and ready for full translation, the client can change the setting to automatic translation by navigating to WPML > Settings > Translation Mode. For current string translation needs, please follow our documentation on string translation: https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/string-translation/

If this solution does not apply to your situation, or if it seems outdated, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If further assistance is needed, please open a new support ticket at WPML support forum.

Hello!
I added new WPML site key to my new page.
At the moment I need to translate just strings of the site.
But later I will want to use translate all the text automatically.

Which setup I need to choose?
I'am afraid, that I will check automatic translation (which I will need later, not at the time- because site is not full finished, but I need to get it live) and everything will start to translate automatically already..

Hi Marika,

Thank you for contacting WPML support, I’m happy to help you with this issue.

You can select the mode Translate What You Choose. If you want to translate everything automatically after finishing the site, you can go to WPML > Settings > Translation Mode to change the mode.

Please follow the documentation to translate strings
https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/string-translation/

Looking forward to your reply.
Thanks
