Does your plugin support Irish language or Gaeilge?
And could I create my own translation even if the language is not in the plugin?
    Thanks

  7. Hi,

I’m interested in using your plugin for a project that I do development work for. Would you be able to tell me:

Are we able to allow a translator access only to the content in their language? We want to restrict each translator so they don’t accidentally start editing the content in another language, for example.

Does the WP install need to be converted to an MU site or does your plugin work with a standard install?

    Thanks

    • Hi Ben,
thanks for your interest in WPML and your questions.
No, you cannot limit the access to one language only for a particular user with WPML settings.
WPML works with a standard WordPress install.

  9. Hi Amir, I have purchased and downloaded the files but I hope you can advise me which is the best method I should implement for my website.

I need to host 6 countries website, all sharing almost 90% identical products and services. However, only 3 countries requires 2 languages. Which is the best way I should implement WPML?

    1) A multisite WP with each country to set as sub-domain within the network?
    OR
    2) Install 6 WP instances and only install 3 domains with WPML?

    Thank you
    Arial

    • Hi Arial,

Before you choose a final option which best satisfies your needs, I’d like you to show this document:
      http://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/displaying-untranslated-content-using-content-duplication/

You will learn from it more about ‘Duplicate’ option which might be a good solution for your requirements. Please read it carefully, especially “Batch-Duplicating Using the Translation Dashboard” section. You will learn how you can use WPML features to when you want to duplicate a large amount of content.

I’m sure that being familiar with different WPML possibilities will let you take your final decision.

  10. Hello,

I want to purchase this plugin for a Client website. He wants Google trenslate, but I recommended to use yours. The Point is, can you tell ME what the pros and what the cons for yours and Google translate are? He wants to have persian and english translation for his german site.
Maybe you can show me some example sites for persian translation if this language is supported…

    Thanks for your time,
    Tom

    • Hi Tom, thanks for your interest in WPML and your questions.
WPML work differently than Google translate. WPML doesn’t translate your texts automatically. It provides an interface which let you easily put your own translations. The main purpose of having a multilingual site is to attract more customers. To do so you must help search engines to easily index your site. You want achieve this with automated translations. Google makes it clear, I encourage you to read Google’s guideline for multilingual sites:
      http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2010/03/working-with-multilingual-websites.html

I cannot show you any site made for Persian with WPML but you can see some examples with sites done with WPML here, including site translated to German.
      http://wpml.org/showcase/

      • Ok, but the problem is I can’t speak persian! And I don’t have the time to write every text in english. Do you provide there any service or good translation tools, with whom I can translate the texts?

And did I understand it the right way. WPML is better for SEO as google translate?

        // Tom

        • WPML is fully integrated with ICanLocalize service. It means that This service is a part of our company. It fully integrates with WPML and lets you select translators, send content for them to translate and receive completed translations, directly in your WordPress admin.

WPML is better for SEO as google translate

Actually it is not a question of a solution but the approach to provide good content. You you are interested what Goole advise please read this article:
          http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2010/03/working-with-multilingual-websites.html

Providing good content, translated by a human is very important from Google’s point of view.

            • ICanLocalize is an add-on translation service, which is easily integrated with WPML. You can send content to translation in ICanLocalize, but you will need to create an account there and pay for the translations. Translation to most languages costs around 0.09 USD per word.

Of course, this is only an option for you. You can also choose to translate yourself and there is no cost for this.

    • Hi Sacha, you can either use subfolder approach or subdomains approach to deal with different languages defined with WPML.

  11. In your product information your state that “You get unlimited sites, full support and our 30 days money-back guarantee.” For a client we are developing two different sites that aren’t associated to each other. Does you claim mean that for this client we can buy once and use it in both sites? If not, pls elaborate on what your statement means.
    Thanks!

    • Hi Claudia,
yes, I confirm. You, a as WordPress site developer/builder, need to buy only one WPML license and you can use it for all of the sites you are building for your customers. That’s cool, isn’t it? 🙂

  17. Hi,
I have following question bevor I purchase the product:
I’m running a website, which is build as multisite network. Is it possible with wpml, that If a user choose a language on one site this language is used in all the different sites. Means wpml remeber the choice in the all network. Or does the user need to choose again if he goes from one site to another?

    Thanks for your answer
    Regards stefan

  18. Hi WPML,

I’m currently looking for a tool that I can self-host on a local server site that will help me manage translations for my organization, using multiple users as translators. For example, I want to be able to publish content in English, and assign translators in French and Spanish to be able to read my text and then do a side-by-side translation, and mark it as complete. When they are finished, I’d like to be able to extract the text and use it in, say a press release or in other marketing material. Is this possible using the WPML tools? Thanks for your time.

but I a bit confused on how wpml works. You wrote: “it is preconfigured with 40 languages” However on another point you say: “you must do translation yourselve”
So please explain me what’s correct.?

When I install wpml do I have languages translated ready to use and when users comes to my website they can just choose there prefered Language?
(and I do not need translate my Whole website myselve?)

    thanks

    • Hi,
thanks for your question and your interest in WPML.
WPML doesn’t translate your content automatically. It is you who provides translations. WPML turns your WordPress site into a multilingual one and provides you an interface to easy manage your translations. The goal of creating multilingual sites it to attract more customer. To achive this, your site should index well in search engine like Google. Automatic translations are not welcome by search engines.
