This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem:
If you're experiencing a 404 error when trying to save a translated page and see an error in the JS console about the 'admin-ajax.php' file, it might not be directly related to WPML.
Solution:
We recommend the following steps:
1. Temporarily deactivate WPML and try updating the page in the default language. If the 404 error still occurs, it confirms that the issue is not related to WPML.
2. Deactivate other plugins one by one to identify if any are causing the issue. In this case, deactivating the Classic Editor plugin resolved the error.
3. If a specific page is causing the issue, try creating a new page and copying the content from the problematic page, then delete the original page.
If these steps do not resolve your issue, or if the solution seems outdated or irrelevant to your case, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins.
