I am working on salasobrien.com and trying to understand how Translation Memory works with automatic AI translation ("Translate Everything Automatically"). I have referred to several WPML documentation pages for information.

How exactly does Translation Memory work with automatic AI translation ("Translate Everything Automatically")?
Does Translation Memory work with individual words, or only sentences?
If we use automatic AI translation (e.g., Microsoft Translator aka Azure Translator), will it automatically use Translation Memory?
Is there anything we need to know about how Translation Memory works with automatic AI translation?

The translation memory is a feature of WPML's Advanced Translation Editor and is not influenced by the translation engine.
The Advanced Translation Editor builds segments of the content and once a segment is translated it creates an entry inside translation memory.
Identical segments will be auto-completed on other translations without charging credits for it.
If you update a string of a segment on the original content it will erase the translation memory for this segment and expect that the segment needs a new translation.
If we enable automatic AI translation ("Translate Everything Automatically") using Microsoft Translator aka Azure Translator, will that use Translation Memory? Or are you saying we need to manually use the Advanced Translation Editor for Translation Memory to be used?
I tried to find answers in the documentation first, but still had these questions.

It does not matter which translation engine is used. The translation memory is a feature of the Advanced Translation Editor and works with or without automatic translation.
https://wpml.org/documentation/automatic-translation/ says, "When you feel confident about using WPML’s automatic translation, you can skip this process and tell WPML to translate all content automatically to all of your site’s languages. This allows you to create and edit content in your language, while WPML maintains your site’s translations in the background." In that case, would the Advanced Translation Editor be used? If not, then is Translation Memory not used either?
Is a "segment" a string of words of an arbitrary length? I don't see that defined in the documentation, including that example you sent. In the example you sent, it looks like "Angelo's Flowers" and "special occasions" are segments. Is that right?

Yes, the Advanced Translation Editor is used for automatic translation and translation memory will be applied in both translation modes:
- Translate everything automatically
and
- Translate what you choose
The segmentation is created by the Advanced Translation Editor. It will build the segments in a logical way that will help the editor achieving the best automatic translation result.
