Background of the issue:
I am trying to separate the WordPress backend and frontend using Akamai. The backend should be accessible via backend.our-domain.com, while the frontend should be accessible via our-domain.com. WordPress allows this via the HOME URL and SITE URL parameters in the database. We have a similar setup for other websites. We use WPML with the setting that each language has its own top-level domain.
Symptoms:
The URL customization does not work with WPML. No matter how we do it, whether via the backend, DB/wp_options, or wp-config.php, it does not work.
Questions:
Are there problems with using different backend and frontend URLs with WPML?
Why does the URL customization not work with WPML when each language has its own top-level domain?
While one of my teammates addresses your ticket, I will provide the initial debugging steps.
WPML retrieves the HOME and SITE URLs from the `wp_options` table in the database. As long as those entries contain the correct URL values, WPML should function properly.
Could you please share your values for the HOME and SITE URLs? Additionally, could you specify what is not working with WPML enabled? Including the screenshots will be helpful.
First, please ensure your WPML plugin and add-ons are updated to the latest version, 4.6.14. This update includes important bug fixes and improvements. While updating may not necessarily resolve your issue, we must work with the latest code to troubleshoot effectively.
You can check for the latest released versions under "My Account -> Downloads" on our website. Instructions for updating can be found here: http://wpml.org/faq/install-wpml/.
If you do not see the updates, please click the "Check for updates" button in the Plugins → Add New Plugin → Commercial tab.
Please remember to back up your database before proceeding.
However, I'm not sure that it can work for the particular setup that you want. I've never heard about this option for different back- and front-end domains.
Also, can you please tell us what Akamai is?
Is it a WordPress plugin?
Regards,
Itamar.
