Background of the issue:
I am trying to fix an issue where the WPML plugin replaces all English page content with French when it automatically applies the equivalent link to the English button. This happens when there is a link in the French button that has an equivalent link in English.
Symptoms:
English pages display French content after modifications, instead of the expected English content.
Questions:
Why does WPML replace English content with French when updating links?
How can I prevent WPML from changing English content to French after updates?
Thanks for contacting us. I will need to closely examine your website. Therefore, I will require temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP) to a test site where the problem has been replicated, if possible. This will enable me to provide better assistance and determine if any configurations need to be modified.
Please note that it is important to have a backup for security purposes and to prevent any potential data loss. You can use the UpdraftPlus plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/updraftplus/) to fulfill your backup requirements.
Your upcoming reply will be treated with confidentiality and will only be visible to you and me.
✙ To resolve the issue, I may need your consent to deactivate and reactivate plugins and the theme, as well as make configuration changes on the site if necessary. This emphasizes the significance of having a backup.
Thanks for your reply. Apologies for breaking the site during troubleshooting. Could you please try to recover it? I attempted to make some changes to the English language page but encountered an error. To investigate further, I tried deactivating third-party plugins to check for conflicts with WPML, but the website crashed during the process.
Thanks for your reply. I suspect the issue might be caused by a conflict with another third-party plugin. I've now deactivated all third-party plugins and switched to a default theme, leaving only the WPML plugin active. Could you please try creating a new page and adding a button with a link, similar to what you did earlier, to see if the issue still occurs?
Hi, I was able to reproduce again. Have a look at the last 2 revisions of the English page. The problem seems to occur when the button on the French page links to a store page.
Thanks for your reply. I can see the error when I try to save the English Language page here hidden link as shown in the attached screenshot.
I regret any inconvenience caused, but to proceed further with troubleshooting, I kindly ask for a snapshot of the site. Alternatively, with your permission, I can create one myself. For this purpose, I typically recommend using the free plugin "Duplicator." If you're already familiar with Duplicator (https://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/), please skip the following steps and simply send me the archive file you downloaded.
To guide you further, please adhere to these instructions:
1. View the Duplicator instructions video: hidden link
3. If the archive file exceeds 400MB, please use Duplicator's file filters to exclude cache, wp-uploads directory, media, and archive files.
Once you have the archive file ready, kindly share the link with us. You can utilize platforms like Google Drive, Dropbox, or similar for file sharing, as the snapshot file might be large.
Please note that your next reply will be private, visible only to you and me. You can paste the file link there. Rest assured that once the issue is resolved, I will delete the local site.
I've installed the Duplicator Pro, and I'm getting this error shown in the attached screenshot when I try to download the packages.
Could you please navigate to your server and open the duplicator folder and download the package from there? Then, share it with me using Google Drive or dropbox.
