I have a problem with the Language URL format
I use the option "Use directory for default language" and added the root page
But I see error 404 when trying to access my wp-admin, and when deactivating WPML plugin the site works normally

Please let me know what is the reason for this error

Hello

As a diagnostic step ONLY:

- What happens if you temporarily deactivate your non-WPML Plugins AND temporarily switch your active theme to be Storefront instead?

Do you still get a 404?

- What about if you keep your active theme but only deactivate you non-WPML plugins?

Do you still get a 404?

- If you temporarily DO NOT use a root page with your normal plugin and theme setup?

Thanks for the additional info.

Hello

You confirmed that with your active theme and the non-WPML plugins deactivated, the site works well.

This implies a plugin conflict.

Then next step would be to do the following:

- Deactivate your non-WPML plugins
- Begin to re-activate your plugins one-by-one, testing after each plugin activation, until you find the plugin that causes the 404 to happen. My hunch is that it would be related to Yoast, Wordfence, or Challan Pro somehow.

Please write back with the name of the conflicting plugin.

Thanks for your collaboration to date.

Hello

There is a plugin conflict between WPML CMS and one of your other plugins.

We already know that when you deactivate WPML CMS, things "work". We did a test that also proved that with your other plugins deactivated it also works.

Conclusion: there is a plugin conflict.

You need to find which one it is. The way to do this is as I told you:
- dactivate all non-WPML plugins
- reactivate each of your other plugins ONE BY ONE and testing each time if you can reproduce the 404 error.

This is the only way to proceed and is a very common troubleshooting technique.

You can try changing the URL format to use a language parameter to see if it changes the issue. Or you can try removing the root page.

But the "complete" solution is to find which plugin is causing the conflict.
There is nothing more I can do for you until you find this out.

It can be a tedious process but if you do it step-by-step, you will have a clear answer in probably less than 10 minutes.

I followed your instruction step by step but after deactivating all plugins and themes the problem persists.
however when changing the URL format and don't use this option Use directory for default language the login works well.

So the problem now in this option.

Hello

Can you try it now?

I replaced your existing root-page.html with a different file: root-page.php. I don't get any 404 page error and the site page uses the /ar language code in the permalinks.

Is this acceptable solution or did you need an actual wordpress page to be defined?

Thanks

Hello

We are seeing different things. I am not being redirected and I can access the dashboard without any issues.

Here is a video recording:

This is done in an incognito browser session with the url you provided and the credentials for the user you gave me. I did no "testing changes" at all.

I am unable to reproduce the problem you are describing. Are you able to access a different computer and/or browser to test with? It may be that you have something in your local setup that is the issue.
