This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client is experiencing issues with WPML on a staging site where translated pages are not correctly pointing to the new staging URL structure.
Solution:
We recommend taking the following steps to address the issue with the staging URL structure:
1. Ensure you have a full backup of your website.
2. Check your permalink structure in Settings > Permalinks to ensure they are correctly set up and match the website's URL.
3. Navigate to WPML > Languages > Language URL Format and change the option to "Language name added as a parameter".
4. Re-save your permalinks in Settings > Permalinks.

If this solution does not resolve your issue or seems irrelevant due to being outdated or not applicable to your case, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. Good day,

We have deactivated WPML and the site is working 100% and is Internal 500 Error free.

As I said, it's been a struggle with this translator (for our site) and unfortunately it seems last time your technicians did JUST ENOUGH to make it work for us until it's too late to get a refund! Anyway, we are clearly going to change our theme, because it seems that is where the clash is. The site seems to work fine with other themes.

So I think we are just going to have to work flat-out over the next few days to convert from Highlight theme to Mezmerize which is similar but does not seem to cause issues...

My challenge now is that when I create a staging site (to test the interaction between WPML and Mezmerize) the translator doesn't work because all the WPML translated pages point to pamci.info/fr and not to pamci.info/phoenix/fr is there a way to quickly address this?

Hello,

For the issue with the staging URL structure. You can try switching the language URL format in the staging. Please make a full website backup and follow these steps:

1. Check your permalink structure in Settings > Permalinks. Make sure they're well set up and match the website's URL.
2. Go to WPML > Languages > Language URL Format and change the option to " Language name added as a parameter";
3. Re-save your permalinks in Settings > Permalinks;

Let me know if that solves the issue for you.

Thanks that resolved the issue, however I am not sure that the testing using different parameters in the staging environment to in the live environment won't defeat the purpose of the exercise. Being that as it may, the translator is working on the staging site.
