This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: The client needs to rename taxonomies to French on a website where the default language is French, but the taxonomies were created in English.
Solution: We recommend navigating to the WordPress taxonomy screen and renaming the taxonomies directly from there. This action should be performed in the default language of the site, which in this case is French.

Tell us what you are trying to do?
The default language of my client's site is in French but I realized I created my Taxonomies in English.
I need to rename them to French.
How can I do it now?
When I edit them I can only modify the other language of the site (which is English in my case).
You can see that the properties of the houses (on the right sidebar) get displayed always in English, no matter if you are in the EN or FR version of the web (you have to scroll down a little bit)
- FR: hidden link
- EN: hidden link
Thanks a lot Laura for that tip!
Unfortunately I'm having issues trying to find the strings that I need to change the source language because the aren't part of a theme or plugin.
I created those as part of a Taxonomy.
I could find them in WPML > Taxonomy Translation
(Domain.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=sitepress-multilingual-cms%2Fmenu%2Ftaxonomy-translation.php)
But as I said, the site is in French but my taxonomies are in English.
(See the attached screen capture)
I tried changing the Hierarchy Synch but that didn't modify it.
Thank you for your feedback. Have you tried to navigate to the WordPress taxonomy screen and rename them directly from there? I have attached a screenshot as an example.
