This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: The client needed to translate the URL slug for a page that was renamed from /winterjackets to /winterclothing. The URL translation was not reflecting on the German and Swedish versions of the site, and the client was unsure how to modify URL translations in WPML.
Solution: 1. If using the WPML Translation Editor, the Page URL settings will only affect new translations. To translate the slug: - Choose 'Translate' in WPML > Settings to include the slug in the translation. - Edit the title of the original content, save it, and then open the translation to adjust the slug.
2. If using the WordPress Editor for translations, edit the slug directly: - Navigate to WordPress Editor > Right Sidebar > Page Tab > URL > Permalink.
3. For existing translations, the client can also use the 'Quick Edit' option in the pages or posts list filtered by language to edit the slugs.
4. Manual edits to the URL/slug are possible in the WordPress Editor, but avoid manual edits to title or content as they will be overwritten by the WPML Translation Editor.
Please note that changing the WPML URL translation settings will only affect untranslated content. For existing translations, update the title in the original content and save, then open the translation in the WPML Translation Editor to see the updated slug.

we have renamed one of our subpages from /winterjackets to /winterclothing.
The German and Swedish sites, display correctly, but we cannot figure out where to also translate the URL. Please see the attached screenshots for clarification.

In the WordPress Editor we tried the following:
WPML > Settings > and then we attempted all of the following choices, but nothing happened:
Page URL
* Auto-generate from title (default)
* Translate (this will include the slug in the translation and not create it automatically from the title)
* Copy from original language if translation language uses encoded URLs
We would like to point out that this is a general problem - we don't understand where/how URL translations can be modified. We see this also as a potential for improvement.

The Page URL Setting that you are mentioning will only take effect when translating the content with the WPML Translation Editor.
- Auto-generate from title (default):
You translate the title of the page or post and this will be used as a permalink slug. This is the WordPress default behavior for permalink slugs.
- Translate (this will include the slug in the translation and not create it automatically from the title)
If the slug was already translated, you only need to adjust its existing translation on the WPML Translation Editor
- Copy from original language if translation language uses encoded URLs
This will use the same slug for original content and its translations, but you need to enable the "Encoded URL" Option for all languages at WPML > Languages > Edit languages.

If you use the WordPress Editor for your translations you can edit the slug for each page using the default WordPress Permalink Options:
thank you for the instructive answer. The problem is that it does not work.
AUTOGENERATE: We normally have the setting on AUTOGENERATE FROM TITLE, but the permalink slug does not automatically translate.
TRANSLATE: When we switch to TRANSLATE & search in the WPML editor, we cannot find a slug translation.
COPY from original language: even though we are not fully sure what it means we believe it is not an option we want since we want different slugs.
Earlier, there was a URL line, but lately, it seems to have disappeared. We suspect that the field-_yoast_wpseo_focuskw might be an issue, but we are not sure (see screenshot).
So where do we change the URL for the Swedish & the German versions if the suggested option gives no solution?
Overall, we would like to mention that this is a recurring issue which makes handling of translations tedious & even causes us as users to rethink the option of creating new pages/renaming existing ones. Please tell the development team that the present option is not very user-friendly.

I have been testing WPML's URL settings now on a test site.
This global URL setting will only take effect for newly created translations.
For existing translations, edit the title on the original content, save the content again, and then open the translation. The slug will now appear if you use the "Translate" setting.
Alternative:
You can also simply go to your pages or posts list, filter the content by language, and use the "Quick Editor" option from WordPress to edit the Slugs of each content.
If this will not solve the issue, let me know and I can offer to have a look at the site.
thanks for your help. After some back and forth, it finally works.
We have taken home the following:
WPML > Settings > URL > set to TRANSLATE (this is the opposite of what we have been told by one of your colleagues some weeks ago, but never mind).
On PAGES or POSTS, then go to the item URL/SLUG and translate that to the desired version.
Before we close this ticket, can you please confirm that you will tell the development team that the 3 options given for URL/slug settings under WPML > Settings is really tricky for non IT-experts.

The manual translation of the URL/slug on the WordPress Editor is always possible.
Only make sure to not take any further manual edits on translations on the WordPress Editor, like title or content. The WPML Translation Editor will always overwrite such manual edits.
The WPML options for the URL translation only take effect on the WPML Translation Editor and if you change the setting, it will only take direct action on not yet translated content.
For existing translations, edit the title on the original content, save the content again, and then open the translation inside the WPML Translation Editor.
The slug will now appear if you use the "Translate" setting.
